Running something for my kids here in the next few weeks and one of them mentioned in passing this would scare the crap out of them...I wanted to oblige. (They are 16, 16 and 13)
I have seen the bipedal Assassin Droid, am looking for something a little more like the one mentioned.

Those are both more vehicles than they are droids. And yes, as vehicle/droids, they should definitely scare the crap out of any PCs who are not likewise equipped. Think about what it’s like to face an AT-ST walker when you’re Han Solo all by yourself on the ground.
You could use the same stats as an AT-ST or AT-RT or AT-PT vehicle, and simply narrate those stats as being a spider droid instead.

The ID9 seeker droid is pretty creepy, too.
16? A TIE-Fighter doing an attack run against them while they are out in the open without having access to their ship or other vehicle weapons should scare the **** out of them. For spider-droids, I fear they are too old, even the 13 year old one. Well, not to old to blow them up and enjoy their time, but potentially do old to get scared from them.
The assassin probe should probably be a Rival NPC.
Upon death, they should release a swarm of probe killers, which should be minions.
