I am soooo confused!!!

By stuh42asl, in Star Wars: Armada Painting and Modification

I have been debating getting the larger model of the MC-80 Home One from Mels. But for the life of me what is the actual length of that beast. Some sources say around 1300m, Some say 1500m. And other sources say it is over 3km long. It is one of those thrice cursed mysteries like what did Tool Time Tim's neighbor look like, or how did they get the caramel in Hersheys Caramilk bar :) It is driving me crazy..................but then that is a as quick as a short drive down Toronto's 400 series highways. :)

Now you see why Mel offers that version.

Canonically, the MC80 Home One is 1200m

There have been many statements in the past to how that is different - including the super 3.2km Model....

But Canonically, its 1200. Doesn't mattter how well you feel you measured it on the original movie in comparison to other things in the shot.

Canonically, its 1200.

If you want to represent the bigger version, go Mels.

Its personal Choice.

That's all.

Just to make matters worse: scale in movie magic never makes sense. For example, the millennium falcon exterior shot rig is actually too squat to fit the actors standing upright: it's actually a TARDIS!!!

Not to mention the CR90 that's 30% scaled that's below the Neb-B when it's exchanging broadsides with an ISD in Return of the Jedi!

To me, that means scale is at best a loose idea in the Star Wars universe.

Does anyone here have a painted example, and the Fantasy Flight ship for size comparison??

I'm pretty sure if you look at Vykes' post in the paint n mod forum he's got comparison pics in there - plus bucket loads of great looking ships that are nothing if not inspiring :)

Well you evil sods:)......................I purchased the 3.2km FUD version, and it is now in production. So along with three sets of the new wave, additional sets of the rebels and empire fighters and a crap load of dreadnaughts (which will make vykes happy) and the Quasar, Ton Falk , and 2 x Imperial Customs corvettes, my final orders have the ATR-6 assualt carriers, the MC-80B, and another dreadnaught. So I am going to be so busy painting I will be get my old age pension by the time I am finished :)

OH THE INSANITY OF IT ALL.................................:P

Here is my painted Right size MC80.

And while 1200m is the current Canon size, there was a time not so long ago where 3km was the Canon size, so take it with a grain of salt. When it comes to Canon size, the Home One has shrunk at almost the same degree that the SSD has grown.

Oh the insanity of it all....................(evil genius ringing his hands, with an evil smile) I am so going to look forward to getting it. Along with my entire hoard of ships, I think that I have enough for the campaign games now. Unfortunately it will be solo, but what the hell:)
