Rebels Season 3 Mid Season Trailer

By Tirion, in Star Wars: Armada

I think it is safe to say that with the more recent appearences we will most likely see the Braha'Tok added to the game, now with the Rebels getting all these new ships I wonder if te Empire will see some new ship or if they will start to dip into legends or the prequels by releasing the Venator or the Acclamator.

Well the Imperial Carrier (which the Rebels stole) is still an obvious candidate for a new ship for the Empire. But, yeah, otherwise the Empire is stretching a bit. Compared to what we've seen for the Rebels:

- MC75 Profundity from Rogue One

- Hammerhead Corvettes from Rebels + Rogue One

- Dornean Gunships from Rebels + Rogue One + Return of the Jedi

...not sure. Certainly, we did see the Venator-class in Imperial colors (very end scene of Episode III), so that's not impossible, but...the Acclamator never was, and neither have been seen in any show since. I'd almost prefer a re-release of the Imperial Star Destroyer with new Commanders and crew, but...odds of that are super, super low...

They were used in Empire at War same place we get the Assault Frigate MK II and MC30. They were the Empire's counterpart to the Nuebulon B2 Frigate.

The MC30 was from 'Return of the Jedi' - it didn't get used in the film, but appeared in concept art for it...

And while I agree that the hideous-looking Assault Frigate Mk2 does appear to be unique to 'Empire at War'...that game came out before the 'canon' reboot thing happened, and can't really be looked at for much precedent. (Ditto the Victory-class, FWIW - if 'Armada' had started development under the current administration, I doubt either of those ships or the Gladiator-class would have seen release...)

That is fair, but I don't think it is too far of a stretch for far outer rim worlds to be patrolled with Clone Wars era ships, the same way they are using the Arquiten cruiser. I'd imagine they would be using them to further expand while they keep trying to produce as many ISDs and Ties they could to replace them when given the chance.

While I'd love to see that...new 3d models are new 3d models, and they don't come cheap. Disney would need some kind of VERY compelling reason to knock out a new one, given everything they have already, and...I dunno. Not sure I see that on the horizon.

I wish, though, I do, but...

Actually, to be fair the Rebels team already has those models. They have all of the assets from Clone Wars, and for the ships they pretty much just need to redo the textures on them, the same way they modified the Arquiten cruiser for the show. It is something they can do, and would probably be easier than making new models wholesale, the only reason they haven't is most likely wanting to represent the ISD as the main big Imperial ship.

But in general, I wouldn't think in universe it would be that weird to have the Venator or the Acclamator patrolling some back water worlds, especially where they haven't been dealing with any trouble that would require bigger guns.

I would like to point out that the Assault Frigate (Mk I and Mk II) showed up in Star Wars: Rebellion long before Empire at War.

Assault Frigate Mk 1, yes, but that one dates all the way back to the West End Games RPGs in the '80s. Not the Mk2 - you may be thinking of the various Mon Cal ships they had, or maybe the Bulk Cruiser? The Mk2 really was created just for EAW...

So can we drop the "I want an adult Game of Thornes in space" talk because you will never get it and thank the Force for that.

You can totally get this. It's called "The Expanse"!

I just noticed that the stormtroopers escorting Wolf Yularen have the same symbol on their pauldron as the robots fighting Thrawn do.

Is it just me or does that symbol look like a caricature of the tarantula admiral from the Clone Wars.

Except that is every single Star Wars movie except for the ground battle of Return of the Jedi. The rebels are wiped out in every other movie or are shown to have extensive casualties. I'm not saying I want it to be Game of Thrones level but thats the opposite end of the spectrum from Rebels. Rebels doesn't kill anyone off and Game of Thrones kills everyone off, both are extremes, I just want Rebels to be in the middle between both. Star Wars has always lay between those two extremes and to me it makes Rebels feel off from A New Hope or Empire Strikes Back and now even Rogue One.

Yeah you can have lots of fun and it can be enjoyable for all ages but if it is going to deal with the foundation of what the Original Trilogy is then yes I am going to complain if they make it overly childish. Filoni worked on The Last Airbender and that series didnt show many people die but it did always make the Fire Nation look impressive and powerful. I don't understand how they haven't been able to do the same with the Empire in Rebels.

Well WEG also hinted at an Assault Frigate Mk II version, but they lost their license and then WOTC picked it up. The dark times... :D
