Tournament Ettiquette

By Dave Grant, in X-Wing Organized Play

I have decided to go to Hoth Open at Adepticon (yeah) as my first X-Wing event

I have played lots of events with other war-games, but is there any "tournament etiquette" or standard practices I should be aware of??

Thanks

Read over the FFG Tournament Regulations.

Be prepared with everything you could need for a game. If you are watching another game, don't comment out loud to either participant that would provide ANY advantage. Have fun. Have fun. Have fun.

1) thank you so much for following actual forum etiquette and posting this in the right sub-forum.

2) Fly casual- this is bandied about a lot and it basically means treat all games as casual games (while in game).Unfortunately too many people used "fly Casual" as an excuse to fly poorly. So this is changing to be more of a general "don't be a ****". For example, If someone messes something small up like forgetting an action or something let them take it back ONCE and tell them that you usually do enforce it. You both are there to play in a competitive setting know the rules and keep your flying tight, but we are humans in the end.

3) Its a game, don't get pissed when you lose.

4) Always shake hands

5) NEVER touch your opponents stuff without asking (should be self explanatory but you never know)

6) NEVER touch your dials without letting your opponent know. (Edit: after they are set)

7) Let them know that you are new, we are a great community and will definitely help you out.

8) Given that you are new, it will probably be you that messes things up. Don't expect/ask your opponent to let it slide, take it as an opportunity to learn and remember. If your opponent offers, accept and thank him while striving to not let it happen again.

Hope this helps and that I didn't sound like an ass! feel free to ask anymore questions, would love to help!

As a follow up to the be prepared sentiment, make sure you read up on the most recent FAQ from FFG's X-Wing page. A lot of words have been added, changed or deleted from existing cards so make sure you know how your squad works. They also spell out how certain interactions and timings work so when a couple of things seem to happen at once this will tell which one actually takes effect before the others.

Have fun and good luck!!!

Thanks guys - all seems about what I would expect.

How do people feel generally about excessive Star Wars quotes, or light-sabre noises in the games... fun, or annoying ??? I tend to release my inner child when I play with my toy soldiers :-).

My wife is also coming along, and it will be her first ever war-games event (still cant believe she said she will come - apparantly when she agreed she thought it was a team event, so I'd be right next to her... :-) ), so I will try to brief her thoroughly (not that she'll listen).

Thanks guys...

Sounds like if you played me the whole match would probably turn into a quote fest but not everyone can be as cool as some of us.
