When figuring out range, what to measure to?

By droz69, in Star Wars: Armada Rules Questions

Two ships, at maximum range, figuring out if they are within range. I read through the rules reference to figure out which parts you measure to, and it's a little obscure. It states to ignore shield dials and the portions of the plastic base that cover the shields. OK.

But, do we measure to the rest of the plastic base, or the ship card? I'm a little fuzzy on that one. Looked through the FAQ and didn't see anything there on it either.

hmm I havent played armada yet but in X-wing its closest point to closest point (in arc for most weapons) of each ship base be front, side, or a corner

It cardboard to cardboard for shooting but when evaluating for collisions/overlaps the plastic counts.

It is certainly more than a little arcane.

In brief: for range, measure from cardboard to cardboard. For distance, measure plastic to plastic, but not the dials/dial frame doodads.

Dras will surely be in here soon to give you rules citations. I would myself, but I'm busy poking trolls with sticks, sorry. :)

LOL, no problem. Thanks. Was just having a hard time finding that clarification. Yeah, I know xwing is base to base, and for the longest time I thought the same of Armada.

Pfeh, "Arcane" he says.

Its probably a good thing I don't have my phone number anywhere to summon me.....

But anyway:

When you are talking about attacking , this is what you need to know: (Italic and Underline emphasis mine)

Measuring Firing Arc and Range

To measure a hull zone’s firing arc, use the range ruler to extend the firing arc lines that are printed on the ship token around that hull zone. If a portion of any component is inside the area between those extended firing arc lines, that component is inside the firing arc. To measure attack range from a ship, measure from the closest point of the attacking hull zone . To measure attack range to a ship, measure to the closest point of the defending hull zone . To measure attack range to or from a squadron, measure to or from the closest point of the squadron’s base.

Hull Zones

A hull zone is a section of a ship token delineated by the two firing arc lines that border it. It does not include any part of the plastic base.

IE, when you measure Range, it must be the Closest part of the Cardboard Base that is in arc ...
