Rogue One is more a tribute to the films above. Not sure if it belongs in the list. And I've seen it only once.

Much more hate here that I thought there would be for The Force Awakens....

The Force Awakens is my favourite, as it is the first Star Wars - the first film ever, that my son saw in theatres. The wild eyed excitement and unbridled joy at seeing the movie.. that I surely felt at the same age in similar situation make it the BEST Star Wars movie there will ever be, because that moment will never happen again.

Then Empire, A New Hope, Rogue One and Jedi (tied).

Much more hate here that I thought there would be for The Force Awakens....

Speaking for myself, I love TFA, but just think that the others are better.

Agreed. . .TFA was a great way to get back into SW, but R1 and ESB are better.

Rogue One all day every day. Empire's got the nostalgia factor but R1 just outdoes it as a film.

My list probably goes like this:

For a while I was debating between TPM and AotC...but then me and my buddy sat down to binge watch 1-6 before Rogue One came out, and holy crap, TPM is bad. I mean...it's got several good moments, but overall it's just tedious to get through.

If I wanted to watch A New Hope, I'd watch A New Hope, not it's crappy millennial remake.

And speaking of A New Hope...

...I may have to have A New Hope and Rogue One as a tie. Or even bump Rogue One up a spot. I really, really, REALLY want to watch them back to back.

I also need to find a copy of Return of the Jedi which doesn't feature CGI musical numbers, the crappy intergalactic celebration scenes and the Ghost of Hayden. Goddamn it Lucas.

I should reiterate that Blizzard force taking Echo Base is my favorite part of the OT now, but ROTJ on the whole (pre Lucas **** up) was my preferred point. Now I can't watch the movies at all, I just watch space battles and skip over the awful fight scenes. Star Wars doesn't hit a mark for me except in the EU books or games, and nothing new's changed thay.

I know the question wasn't a list, but it seems to have turned into a list topic.

IV - It was my first love as a child

V - From every objective standpoint, best of the series.

Rogue One - From every objective standpoint aside from music, the second best of the series.

VI - This is basically the movie that gave us the Expanded Universe, and all the great games like X-Wing and TIE Fighter.

That's it. I'm done. The prequels are a long forgotten misery, and nothing about the cast or story of The Force Awakens left any impression on me.

Can I just forget TPM exists?

Empire is my favorite. The main characters had good interaction and growth, the antagonists were competent, awesome climax fight/reveal, and Lando Calrissian, baby.

However, Rogue One is now my recommended starting point for watching the series; I can't wait to get it on Blue-Ray.

The Rebel Fleet exiting hyperspace and bull-rushing the shield gate disagree. But they were both exceptionally good minutes.
