Getting Started on Painting?

I have a question. I haven't started painting IA stuff, but I used to paint D&D metal miniatures a long time ago. If you screw up, can you strip the paint off the miniature without damaging it?

I use super clean to strip paint off of miniatures. You can find it at Walmart in the automotive section and it won't hurt the plastic of the miniature. Hope that helps.

in the UK, Dettol disinfectant works well. But the real stuff, not the cheap version!

I started painting and learned from Sorastro. Generally, I will watch a video once straight through and then paint. And I'll go back and just watch videos just to see if I can pick up something I missed.

Totally agree. There are some awesome tutorial videos out there. As mentioned before, Sorastro has some incredible videos! I've also just started posting some tutorials of my own that you're welcome to check out. I just posted my first tutorial on the Rancor and just got done painting Jabba (which I'll be posting soon):

Practice Practice and more Practice. Buy cheap army men practice on them first. Then Take you time, spend decent on brushes not the cheap stuff either. Then find what paints you like, I have budget set. A mix of Model Color, Citadel, Testors, and my brand Army Painter Mega Paint set (which I like as it has tones which you could go over a color and being that is more diluted the paint settles along ridges and in ridges creating shadows etc).

I emphasize practice, took me years to get good at. In my prime back during the glory days of Ral Partha Miniatures, I could get eyes, goatees, greying etc to near professional look. People drooled over my Balrog :>

So, I've started painting.. First, it was only some sloppy practice runs on the Probe Droids and Storm Troopers, but I think I'm getting the hang of it. I'm not looking to win any Golden Demons obviously, and I just can't make decent looking highlights, but it works - and looks a lot better than just the default gray. As of last night, there's paint on my Stormtroopers, Probe Droid, Officers, Heavy Troopers and Kayn Somos, E-Webs, ISB Enforcers and Blaise, HKs and Royal Guards. I've slowly started on Jabba's Realm (that' out next campaign), so last night I finished Captain Terro and the Weequays - and started the Jet Troopers. I've tried Vader, but it's real hard to paint different shades of black.. :)

I'll see if I can post some pics, if anyone cares..

Again, thank you for your help and advice.

EDIT: Oh, now I see that there's a whole subforum for painting.. sorry for the spam out here.
