Where does Ben play? I am coming to Austin next week, and I want to play Ben. I will likely get clobbered, but I'll certainly learn something.
If you are here this weekend there is a tournament in Austin at dragons's lair on the 7th.

Just to be clear I play with Ben down here in Austin and San Antonio on multiple occasions. I consider him a fellow Armada brother as he has put a lot of time and commitment building an Armada community over in Austin and it has been a blessing to finally see the fruits of his labor start to pay off. He has started to develop a core of competent and capable players. I look forward to seeing them play at our regional event. I don't think players get competent by Ben taking it easy on them. He is a standup guy and enjoys the tactical/strategic elements this game offers. He has become a blessing to know and call friend. One of the highlights of my time in Texas is getting to know him. I can tell you with 100% certainty if there is any case of doubt that blade wind is just bitter that Ben had proved both superior at playing Armada, and at developing a good gaming community. I see blade wings statements made out of envy and bitterness. So I ask him to just stop as it is classless and just makes it look like you are someone in need of serious help.

Well Brikhause is also a Ben too!

Armada-ben-geddon?
I'm inclined to agree that the game is problematic right now. I have two specific issues. It should be said that I'm not coming from X-Wing. I've played a grand total of maybe five games of X-Wing. It's a good game, but it's a completely different game. X-Wing is tactically reactive from turn to turn. Armada isn't.
#1 - The game can frequently be decided after the list building and deployment steps. What I mean here is that if you have a bad list or a bad deployment... you're not going to win versus a good list/good deployment MOST of the time. Skill is not really the equalizer that it is in many games. It's not like a skillful player can make a Victory-class Star Destroyer fly faster if he deployed it a bit too far out. There is no coming back from certain mistakes and it feels like you hit a point where you know you've lost, but you have to play the loss out in slow motion to try to mitigate the damage and get a better score.
#2 - Squadrons seem weirdly unbalanced. It seems crazy that the majority of ships in the game CAN'T kill a Decimator, even with perfectly lined up shots and all hits all game long. A few of the ships that have two anti-squadron dice CAN kill certain squadrons over the course of a game, but only with good rolls and at the expense of shooting at other ships. I feel like the only reason a player wouldn't take all squadrons is the hard limit on squadron points and the loss condition of having no ships.
These are my problems with the game as well.
The activation system and shoot/move also add to the effect of 'inevitable doom' where one player can't come back from certain mistakes.
Unfortunately all this means my local and my friends are meh on Armada which sucks because I do love it despite what I see as structural gameplay challenges.
But - CC is a new way to play and the excitement of a demi-narrative campaign combined with some rules changes to make the game more reactive has everyone hyped.
Who is Ben?!
Armada is not nearly as meta as X-Wing is. I don't say that as a biased Armada player, I say that as someone who really wanted to get into X-Wing once upon a time a couple months ago. Here's the difference in Armada you can build a list however you want and typically you can pull through. You really like a particular way a ship looks you go for it. Obviously there are more optimal fleet lists and ship combinations for the most efficient synergy but typically you have a wide range to pull from. You really like Rebel Transports, theres a way to make that work. In X-Wing it seems that if you want to be competitive you have to pick specific ships.
This is most evident anytime new players ask in the respective forums what to get. In Armada the answer is typically, get a few squadron packs and then whatever you like the look of. X-Wing its always very specific. Get the Imperial Aces then the Tie Advance expansion and so on. If you really like the way a certain ship looks and its not a part of the meta well good luck ever playing that ship!
As someone very new to Armada, coming from X-wing, I couldn't agree more. The meta is very well defined there. I mean, then chances of seeing Palp Aces, Dash and something or Nora W. is almost a guarantee right now. The thing I like thus far about Armada is that there's a lot more variety in things to choose from. I think that the variety can also be directly attributed to the fact that you get to command capital ships (of various sizes, roles and upgrade possibilities) as well as fighters (with various abilities and attributes).
I also like both games.
Who is Ben?!
The man responsible for all evil unleashed upon the Earth!!!!!!!!!
Who is Ben?!

I played chess with Ben. Every time I chose white he chose black and when I was trying black HE CHANGED TO WHITE!!! Of course he won every time as he had the perfect build against my own ![]()
Ben killed Chess. Blame Ben.

You just won this thread. Congratulations! 5 Credits have been deposited into your account. Have a nice day!
That shnozz has its own gravitational pull.
I know this Ben fella, I've been playing against him since I started the game, which was about 4 or 5 months ago. For a while in fact he was the only person to play, so at this point I've probably played 30+ games against him. I can't say I've ever seen him do what the OP described. There's been a few times where we both brought a couple of lists and talked about which ones would be a fun match-up and switched, but that was all agreed on. Most games he doesn't even care what I'm playing, he just sets out his list without really knowing what I brought. He's definitely really good at the game and in the beginning of course handed my ass to me. I've gotten better by playing someone good like him, so recently I've beat him a couple of times. While I still usually lose to him, it's generally closer to a 7-4 or 6-5 loss.
I will say, however, that BEN is the reason I wasted time at work today reading this thread. **** you, Ben.

Ben spawns disciples at an amazing rate, forcing them to sign up with false names and extol the virtues of Ben.

Classic Ben
Godd*mn it, Ben took all my likes again!
Classic Ben.
Fear is the path to Ben. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering. Suffering leads to the dark side. Dark side leads to Ben.
Once you start down the Ben's path forever will it dominate your destiny. Consume your fair play it will.
A little clarification seems appropriate:
A bad list with bad deployment SHOULD lose to a good list deployed well. Every time. EVERY TIME!!! Building a workable list and deploying it well are essential SKILLS!
Of COURSE there is no coming back from certain mistakes! Take your well-earned beating and learn from it!
There. I feel better now........
A bad list with bad deployment SHOULD lose to a good list deployed well. Every time. EVERY TIME!!!
...unless a blond good-for-nothing farmer kid pulls a one-in-a-million shot into your thermal exhaust port. Then you're screwed.
I saw this thread and, had to read it. I'm new to Armada with just a scant few simple "starter" games under my belt to feel it out. I think it is awesome. And, I am an X-Wing player. I love the capital ships and the strategies; very different and it should be. I'm not knowledgeable of the meta and what effects or issues it has.....but I'm excited about this game!
Cheers!
Hey Clan! Fellow X-wing refugee here, we've spoken a few times on the forum. Hope you get to enjoy Armada as much as I am right now - one round into a Corellian Conflict season and it is blowing my socks off.

Nice, I haven't looked into the Corellian Conflict...getting my bearings. Hope to hit a few games this weekend with friends and maybe even get beyond the "intro" game. I'll also play some X-Wing too; piloting star-fighters is such a rush, I'll keep Capital ships in Armada as my main thing. I don't see myself entering into the squadron bug that seems to be the recent hotness on the Armada Forums; I'm a real stubborn kinda guy.
Look forward to chatting with you and the other great threaders on this side of the Forum.
Fly casual....and better.
Clan's moving into the capital ships...awesome.

Exactly! I mean...that thing was RAY SHIELDED! What'd they hit it with? Proton torpedoes?! They don't even HAVE an accuracy result on their die.
This game sucks. Thanks, Ben.
An awful lot of people have played Ben in a so called dying community.
Ben kills the community but uses Rieekan to keep it around just to force it to take more damage.

Yeah, the local community that Evil Ben helps organize is growing. We have a regular night we play, on Monday's, and this past Monday was one of the biggest turnouts yet.
THIS JUST IN!
ARMADA....DEAD!
Ben Necromancy incoming.
