Is Ben Russian ?
Venting on the state of armada
Is Ben an animal, vegetable, or mineral?
Is Ben an animal, vegetable, or mineral?
He is everything.
Wait. Didn't he come in third at the Houston Regionals using an MC80?
Yes.
Wait, wait, wait..so what are we complaining about?
Look bladewing, sometimes boys hurt our feelings and I'm sorry Ben has hurt you, but there are plenty of space whales in this ocean of space ya know? I don't think Ben is the droid you are looking for.

It was Ben's idea to remove Obama care I've heard.....

Yes.
We're simpling posting Ben's name enough times to where he'll finally manifest himself within our screens and embrace us with his steely eyes.

But it was also his idea to start it in the first place...

Yes.
Unless I'm very mistaken, only one of us here is complaining, and it's because he's salty about getting his ass beat in a series of casual games by somebody better than him... who was... running a list he wouldn't usually use? Or something.
It's not entirely clear what the specific complaint was, if I'm being honest. The post opened with the promise of listing things that should be fixed, but the rest was broad accusations of... something.
In brief, Ben killed Armada. Blame Ben.
How about one the judges of the last xwing regional in Austin. I am not using his name for a reason he doesn't need to be involved in my rant. He plays armada and xwing with me every now and then but mainly plays xwing. He is noticing the same stuff.
Did Ben tell you that perchance?..... Ben!
Not Rock Paper Scissors why did I catch Ben changing his build to take advantage of my builds weakness. Btw real a rock to scissors move. But Ben just told not one week earlier that build with large ships and no fighters was dead. Which btw way I was building to take on he previous builds fighter heavy nature. When I saw his build was a perfect answer to my build and had no fighters I knew how he winning every time he built cheesy builds to play against the major archetypes and switched up at the last second to get the easy win. When I switched up he would switch up. That time I lost three games with the same build each time to test my theory, and each time he ask me if was going to change. I didn't to see if he would change as knew he hated that build he was playing. He didn't change a thing. A friend also noticed this and agreed that was what he was doing as he usually only changes up when I change my list and each time it amazingly played against my weekends. That needs to be fixed. If you win the game based mainly on set up then it leads to people quitting early and not investing in the game. Which is what I am seeing and hearing from people in the LGS.
You do realize that this is because "Ben" is a ******, not because Armada is a bad game?
SURE! I don't actually play armada regularly, was just inserting a Flight of the Conchords reference
I believe I know the full name of this Armada playing fiend that prays on the weak-minded...
It sounds like from the regular pummellings he gave you OP, you met the scurge of all miniature gamers... Ben Dover. I just hope he cuddled afterwards.

I heard Ben Dover quit Armada. He's in the movie business now. Or so I've heard.
Edited by Green KnightThis seems to have gotten out of hand and requires my divine hand to sort this out so when I become SUPREME(note caps) Lord Of The Sith in January here is what I propose to do
1)I think we can all agree that x-wing is evil so I shall make the playing of it a federal crime punishable by being crushed in a garbage compactor.
2)Armada will become compulsory in all schools and I shall personally see to it that every home in America has a copy of the Armada core set(and when I say personally I mean I shall have my minions deal with this as i've just realised that is a lot of homes and would take me quite a while to deliver those.Certainly a lot longer than the afternoon I had invisiged when I thought of this.)
3)Just what exactly are the Bens upto?Seems they are everywhere and we have exactly ZERO idea what their agenda is so to this end I will enact the Ben Registration Program. Then when we have all their details we shall round them all up,ship them to a remote location(prob Canada)build a wall around them and have the DEATH STAR er I mean one of our friendly satalites guard them.

Lol
Bend Over.
What a name
All this has got me thinking: create a vassal event where newer players make two lists (with some restrictions, no obcene bids, putting upgrades on ships that can't use them, etc), give one to a Vassal veteran to play against them and see what happens...my bet, skill beats fleet building, but then again what do I know?

I want to do the following.
Everyone creates a list, lists are randomly asigned to players. At the end 50% of points awarded to list maker, 50% to list player.

the judge I know said it was probably best not to play

Hey i figured out a solution.
Still feel most of the Hate comes from a lack of understanding of the game and a desire to see it streamlined into a game where there is a clear easy button to play. It's a Very convoluted game even though the rules are easy the learn. Chess is the same way, easy to learn but the complexities are so vast people spend their whole lives to learn how to play better and still never reach the level of Master.
Just because the complexity seems like too much it doesn't mean the game is bad and X-Wing is a thousand times more determined by the list build than Armada is and the fact there are no two lists exactly the same at championships prove it. But some list builds are better in some players hands because it plays to their playstyle and abilities. A good chess player isn't blamed for his list and gets credit for his abilities, why can't you apply that to Armada? Look past your local meta, which might be tainted, and you may see why most do not agree with your beliefs. The term for your vie s is myopic because you can't see past your own perspective which is biased to say the least.
Sooooo.... actually the state of Armada isn't the problem, it's actually bad ol' Ben cheating.
Phew, best go get my ships out of the bin...
Edited by GammonLordThe game can't be that bad if I just had fun last weekend playing in a game where the Empire had : 1x ImpStar II, 1x Vic 1, 1x Vic 2, and I flew a Rebel fleet of a single MC30, 3 Corvette B's, and a Transport Flotilla. Each fleet had about 6 squadrons- mostly bombers for the Rebs, with fighters as CAP patrol for the Empire.
It was fun as hell, with me flying crazily everywhere (Cracken as Admiral) at speed 3 and 4, cringing at every firing roll by those three monster ships, but still slowly picking away at them.
Big bombing run as the Rebs did some decent effect to a Victory, but then Imperial Fighters and Interceptors tied them up so the Vic could fly away. Imperial II one-shotted a Corvette that got too cocky, etc.
Game felt just right. After three or four plays, I finally am starting to feel less pain over my glory days of fun playing Battlefleet Gothic all those years back.
I too, as a casual player, feel less of a weight towards list building in Armada than in X-Wing. Feels like literally every ship for each side can be fun to play, and I own most of them save for Wave 5. Yet.......(looks over shoulder for wife)
Edited by AegisI play Armada. I play X-wing. Neither are my favorite games for reasons that in some measure agree with the OP. I think list building has too much influence on the outcome of both games for my personal tastes, so I find them more enjoyable as casual-only, where no one is so invested as to build based on what is the current meta, nor investigating the super synergistic combos, or anything like that. Its more of a "cool, I like the idea of Vader commanding my Star Destroyers, today; how many fighters can I have? Now, what upgrades will fill up the rest of the points and be kind of useful??" type of game.
I do not have anything against more serious/competitive players than myself, but I don't want to play in their environment, because that playstyle doesn't suit me.
As a result, I keep my X-wing and Armada gaming casual, as kind of the go-tos when we don't know what else to do on gaming nights, while reserving "serious" thought for campaigns I have running in other systems.
Note the important point here: I do not get upset at X-wing and Armada because the competitive environments aren't to my particular tastes. Instead, I play them in a way I enjoy, and I play other things that I enjoy. No game should be allowed to become a source of frustration or cause for venting. Worst case scenario (say, this poorly conceived rip-off of X-wing produced based off another license...), steal any usable components (the models, for example) and either find or write a rules set that will put them to better use.
Wait, the game sucks because one guy named Ben is a jerk and knows how to play Jedi Mind Tricks on you before the game?
Don't play against Ben, he's too good at those mind tricks.
Edited by BeattyOk we obviously can agree the community has some issues, maybe not the ones I started this topic to address but some real insecurities. (get therapy people it helps) Anyways if an admins is here I would say lock these threads before things get much worse. 170+ posts of nothing but people trying to get under one guys skin is enough. I got the drift of the community stick to X-Wing my opinions of the game are not understood, or wanted.
