Has Anybody Played As A Hutt and Had It Work Out?

By Whurpe, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

I love the Hutts and Lords of Nal Hutta has statted them out as a potential PC class.

When you read planet populations, you quickly see that there are 100s of millions of Hutts out there and well, they cannot all be Jabba the Hutt! The Hutt bulk is built after centuries of gluttonous excess because base Hutts have a Silhouette of 1.

Could a Hutt work in a group? I would love to play one as a support character and face and not the domineering way where it is The Hutt and people in his orbit, you know what I mean?

Edge of the Empire has some careers that seem to fit Hutts well, like Politico. Has anybody here done that? For some reasons people consider this to be a taboo, I hear. I don't mean to offend but the opportunity to make enemies stroke out from Scathing Tirade seems like a blast.

I haven't seen it in a game yet, but there is no reason a Hutt wouldn't work with a group. All the Hutts we have seen are rather stereotypical. They must have shopkeepers, soldiers, pilots, bums, you name it. They couldn't have conquered their first world without it. Now most may have aspirations of glory. I could totally see a Hutt working with a party, viewing the group as the beginnings of their own Kadijic. Whether the group knows it or not.

Our GM recently ran an open EotE Beginner Gam le session, and one player brought in a PC to use in place of a pre-gen: a Hutt doctor. Worked well. Since the BG was something of a one-off, the player is going to sit in (with the Hutt doc) on a session of the campaign I run to see if he wants to join in full time?

Hutts have a *very* long lifespan, and get bigger as they get older. A Silhouette 1 Hutt is going to be pretty young, but ambitious, which is a perfect recipe for an adventurer.

There's not a lot of canon info on the species (other than that Hutts are apparently sexually dimorphic now), so you're free to do what you want. Playing either to or against stereotypes can be pretty entertaining, a philanthropic Hutt could be really disarming in social situations.

Thanks for all the replies! A Hutt doctor sounds really neat.

Go for a very holistic doctor. Have a reskinned medkit where his stimpacks are attaching leeches. That could be funny!

One character concept I have is for a force-sensitive Hutt, who is related to Beldorian.

Beldar would be of the opinion that his uncle is/was weak and needs to be “retired”, if that hasn’t happened already. If he has already been “retired”, then someone would need to come along and rebuild that part of the kajidic — namely, Beldar.

But there are many ways that story could play out. ;)

I played a Hutt Charming in a 6 month long campaign and it went very well. He was well rounded

My group has a campaign concept where all the party members are in some way part of the Rebellion whether directly or indirectly. One of the players has made a Hutt Quartermaster (from AoR) that helps funds and supplies the effort.

In the Force and Destiney campaign i ran the party selected mentor as their starting resource. Their mentor was a force sensitive Hutt who spent her years after order 66 amassing a collection of Jedi and force artifacts and using her knowledge and abilities to preserve the Jedi in some way while also raising her prestige in her resptice Kadjidic.

I have a dream of playing a Hutt performer someday. He is misunderstood and perhaps even disowned by his famly/kadjidic because he just wants to dance...

...also I would like to play a toydarian performer who has a strong penchant for reciting really terrible toydarian poetry that he uses as life advice.

A hutt pilot? ...You're kidding, right?

Ahaahahahaha!!!!Ahaaahahahahhhaaa!!!!!…sorry, but how?

What, you've never seen someone vogue before? A Hutt could totally pull that off! :)

We have a Hutt Colonist Entrepreneur being actively played in our Edge game, he's kind of awesome.

He fills our talker role and also generates plenty of creds to keep us fed, armed, repaired, and NPC palms greased.

He's not much of a fighter though; although it's nothing some Hutt Shell armor and a Vibro Axe couldn't fix.

Like most groups, we have enough combat oriented characters to keep us alive.

Bah-dum-tish!

Sigh, do I have to pull out the graphic again? Yeah, I guess I have to pull it out again. . . .

Yeah, I suppose you don't know what voguing is. :) Hutt could rock those moves! Well, some of them anyways.

One character in my personal backlog is a Hutt lounge singer/informant. Go Performer, but don't take stuff like Coordination Dodge and focus more on the Distracting Behavior part of things. Maybe Charmer instead, but that's the general idea.

I played a Hutt Entrepreneur in a short lived online game. The vharacter was fun and the GM really did a good job but I just couldn't make heads or tails of playing a table top game online...

Every time I read the threat title I see a Hutt in gym kit working out.

In bright pink 80s style gear, with a single giant "leg-warmer" over the middle portion of his tail.

I've never seen a Hutt character work out long-term. Granted I've only seen like 1.5 Hutt PCs, so I don't have a huge sample size to go on :)

@Simon Retold

That picture is perfect for a Hutt that's running a criminal space station in my game.
