Rey or Dash?

By C3gorach, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Recently i tried a Rey-Miranda list. And while i was satisfied i couldn't stop comparing Rey with Dash... So which would you take as a wing-man ton Miranda, Rey or Dash? The ships are kinda similar but also build quite different. Here are the builds:

Miranda Doni (42)
K-Wing (29), Twin Laser Turret (6), Extra Munitions (2), Homing Missiles (5), Long Range Scanners (0)

with

Rey (58)
YT-1300 (45), Expertise (4), Finn (5), Kanan Jarrus (3), Millennium Falcon (Segnor's Loop Version) (1)

or

Dash Rendar (58)
YT-2400 Freighter (36), Push the Limit (3), Heavy Laser Cannon (7), Kanan Jarrus (3), Outrider (5), Engine Upgrade (4)

How about the following:

62 Rey (45), Finn (5), Kanan (3), TFA Title (1), Expertise (4), EU (4)

38 Miranda Doni (29), TLT (6), C-3PO (3)

EU and TFA title are a great combo as it gives Rey 2 possible options for repositioning which can be combined if you wish. Also Expertise goes well with EU as it means you can afford to Boost as you will still get a perma-Focus on your shooting.

If you want a beefier Miranda, you could go with a leaner Dash build. Trick Shot, Mangler Cannon, Title, Smuggling Compartment, Rigged Cargo Chute. Sprinkle in crew and mod for flavor. That base comes to 46 points, so you can easily fit in a good crew and mod as well as a fully outfitted Miranda.

Well i prefer not to have all my eggs in one basket, and divide my resources onto both ships in order to have two good combatants.

Both have pros and cons that are entirely situational based on who might be your opponent.

Honestly though, I'd say if you're sticking to those builds, take Dash. I reckon 2-Agility and a boost/barrel roll option outweigh Rey's attacking potential.

That's a tough one - both are good options.

Personally I'd lean towards Rey because you've built an alpha strike into Miranda with those homing missiles. I'd worry that an arc dodging Dash might leave Miranda exposed when she comes in for her missile run whereas Rey will be (hopefully) up in their face forcing your opponent to make hard decisions about who to shoot. Also (and this is only a minor advantage) they are both at PS8 which gives you a little bit more versatility in terms of the order of moving and shooting.

Take all of this with a pinch of salt - I've only played with Dash-Miranda once or twice and Rey-Miranda never but that's just my initial impression.

Rey needs people in arc to be most effective. Dash doesn't. So i would say go for Dash for the fact that he is fore versatile.

Last game I tried:

Miranda Doni(29) - Extra Munitions(2), Homing Missiles (5), Twin Laser Turret (6), Long-Range Scanners (0), Jan Ors (2) [44]

Rey (45) - Expert Handling (2), Finn (5), Kanan Jarrus (3), Millennium Falcon (Segnor's Loop) (1) [56]

and I believe it's the best iteration of these two ship I have tried... Expert Handling helps greatly to dodge arcs or keep ppl in arc with the added bonus to shed a target lock, and the stress isn't an issue since you will clear it with any maneuver exept the K turns. Jan can also provide an evade for the ship that gets targeted increasing its survivability. Super Dash (with PTL) although he has great maneuverability in a meta of lots pilot skill 8/9 aces he doesn't seem that good. Finally Reys ability to joust is another reason to pick her over Dash imo.

So what to you think?

I like the initial build with Dash, but instead of PTL and Kanan, I would do Expertise or Lone Wolf and Rey crew.
