Crew for the B-Wing

By BlueMusketeer28, in X-Wing

So I have recently been experimenting with Rebel crew. I find I like a support ship, but I'm not a huge fan of the YT's and even then they are pricey for a support. The Hawk is ok, and I love the U-Wing, but I was playing a game last night and realized the B-Wing is a solid and cheap ship with a decent gun. This left me thinking about how to play this ship as a support dogfighter. I really like Jan Ors with FCS. Great action economy. Sensor jammer is pricey but makes the ship hard to kill (at the cost of damage) unless the enemy has focus to spare. Cassian might be good in a knife fight. Tactician isn't terrible. What else have people tried and liked?

The U-Wing kinda killed the B-Wing, in my opinion. A B-Wing with E2 is the same price as a U-Wing, and they have the same upgrade slots except the U-Wing gets a second crew slot, an extra agility (pivot wings) and only loses the cannon slot, which B-Wings rarely use anyways.

If you want an E2 B-Wing, I'd recommend a U-Wing every time since you get an extra crew slot and a big base for obnoxious blocking. If you insist on running a B-Wing, I'd say their sole interesting contribution to the Rebel fleet would have to be tied to their cannon slot, so I guess you could use them as like a tractor beam platform or something.

Sadly you are correct actually. I was flying it in formation with and doing the same things as a B-Wing. It is less maneuverable, which doesn't mean much in this case, it's a B-Wing after all. What a pity. The B-Wing is a little tougher and does have more torpedoes available thought.

Bit of a gamble

"Raging B"

Keyan Farlander

Not sure if Keyan's spending a focus equals "removing," but I hope it does.

Is he removing a stress to use that ability? If so, it counts.

You dont need recruit with Keyan + Rage. He removes one stress with his ability. Kanan or Jan Ors would be a nice crew with him though. Jan turns the focus from rage into an evade, or Kanan opens his dial up.

EDIT: Ah, I see, was thinking in turns of movement, but his ability removes both with recruit. Interesting.

Could you imagine the chatter in the cockpit of this B-Wing?

I think that the newbie may be the reason Keyan's Raging.

That build is pretty thematic IMHO. Nice job.

Keyan with PTL and Jan is a nice combo, though the new hotness of Rage and IR does sound like fun.

Doesn't the B Wing have a better knife fighting dial and barrel roll action? And a smaller base which means it's easier to concentrate firepower into a smaller area, although that's only really relevant in larger games.

I've run Hera with Keyan. Red maneuver while stressed, attack and shed stress. Fun but expensive.

I do a variation of this where I use C-3PO crew, all else the same.

I find that Threepio makes Keyan a bit tankier to take down. By far, my favorite crew to use on the B-Wing.

expensive, but hot shot co-pilot and sensor jammer have some nice synergy - esp on a mangler cannon ten numb with vi

Economy Keyan:

Farlander + trick shot + collision detector + E2 + hera syndulla.

Take 3 debris fields. Never get an action, but fly wherever you want.

Jan ors was usually my go to crew for various b wing builds.

If you're doing that, why not take Ibitsam? You get an offensive reroll plus a nice defensive reroll too., and the point you save on the pilot can buy you Wired instead of trick shot - so you can reroll one blank result and any number of focus results.

I have been running this with Biggs lately and so fare, it did pretty well.

Nerra + Daedeye + Plasma Torps + EM + FCS + Guidance Chip

Having Jan nearby is quite helpful too because it's almost too action efficient. You often end the round with two or three tokens next to him to pick up.

Keyan, Stay on Target, Advanced Sensors (or FCS), E2, and Intel Agent is lots of fun til sombody brings out the TLTs.

I've also thought Ibtisam, Wired, FCS, E2, and Hera might be great, but I've never gotten to try that build.

For my colleagues who think the B Wing is dead, I invite you to try 3 Blue Squadron B's with FCS, and a Blue Squadron Pathfinder with title, FCS, and Operations Specialist (coming soon on the Batwing shuttle). So much fun.
