Dual Pickle (Tanking and Spanking)

By Englishpete, in Star Wars: Armada Fleet Builds

A good friend of mine wanted to test out his Empire Regionals list yesterday so I pulled together a Rebel list I had wanted to try for a while the dual pickle, but hadn't really thought that great until wave 5 gave me some shiney new toys to play with.

Now I am normally an Empire player myself, so I am not professing that this is a top tier tournament winner, but it was VERY effective.

The amount of punishment that the dual pickles can take and dish out is absurd, so, I present my list for your thoughts.

- Medical Team ( 1 points)
- Electronic Countermeasures ( 7 points)
- Reinforced Blast Doors ( 5 points)

- Medical Team ( 1 points)
- Electronic Countermeasures ( 7 points)
- Reinforced Blast Doors ( 5 points)

1 Hera Syndulla ( 28 points)
1 Lieutenant Blount ( 14 points)
3 Z-95 Headhunter Squadrons ( 21 points)

I'm guessing you are mostly spamming engineering commands with those beasties? It feels very much like a "Go big, or go home" list, as if just one of those gets sunk, you are looking at a major swing. On the other hand, I'm guessing the fact that you need to kill both of them kinda evens that out a bit.

The damage control officer is a great shout, I might give that list a whirl at some stage.

Why Sato out of interest? I'm not proficient with Ackbar at all, but that list screams Ackbar at me...

You could use Ackbar, but I really like Sato for the black die consistent damage and he doesn't restrict me to side arc volleys. His ability even makes the front and rear arcs on the pickle something your opponent can't ignore.

Ackbar has a higher possible spike damage, but Sato is more reliable and versatile. That's my reasoning at least.

I find I use engineering, concentrate fire and squadron commands more or less equally.

That's a nice list. I'll probably try it next time I play. Just in a rut doing Rebel lists...

I have a dual MC80 list written, but it's a HO and Lib combo. This may be better.

You may want to try Rieekan with this fleet. In case your opponent does get one of your pickles, you can still shoot and hopefully kill whatever killed you. I've run and had success with a double pickle and TRC90 list without much fighters. My local meta was not very fighter heavy then.

Rieekan doesn't really work well with this list, the reduction in firepower and not using all named squadrons isn't synergistic with him. If a pickle goes down, having one more shot isn't going to be a critical component.

I like it, it's probably the place where Blast Doors make the most sense.

Here's my similar list for comparison.

Key differences:

Lando on the Defiance

No Medical on the ship with DCO (because Medical kinda wants to fish for crew crits)

Extra activation, BH which takes Hera's role.

Cheap squadrons

Akbar (I prefer Sato with MC30s ord exp)

Double Assault

[ flagship ] GR-75 Medium Transports (18 points)
- Admiral Ackbar ( 38 points)
- Bright Hope ( 2 points)
- Comms Net ( 2 points)
= 60 total ship cost

1 Tycho Celchu ( 16 points)
1 X-Wing Squadron ( 13 points)
1 Rogue Squadron ( 14 points)
1 Z-95 Headhunter Squadron ( 7 points)

Tried two MC-80s yesterday, running on the interpretation of rapid launch bays allowing you to shoot when the fighters are placed.

Sato (just to try him)

2x MC80 Command w/ RLB, XI7, ECM

Torryn Farr on one (didn't read her card carefully enough)

Norra Wexley

3x Y-Wing

Luke Skywalker

3x X-Wing

It wasn't too bad, but if I had to do it over, I'd drop the ECM from both and Torryn Farr, and get a GR-75 with Bomber Command

So I gave this a whirl this afternoon against a Jerjerrod victory list. Did pretty well, but that was more due to my opponent deploying badly. I think I would drop Hera (28), medical teams (2) and defiance (5), and add in two engines techs (16) and Shara Bey (17), engine techs would have really helped me out, though that could just have been this list. It's fun to play though, and the pickles are damned survivable!
