Destiny Tournament Software

By Killerardvark, in Star Wars: Destiny

If you're familiar with the Cryodex tournament software for X-WIng, Armada, or Imparial Assault, you can now use it for Destiny.

Well, that was quick! Cheers sir!

Any chance its making its way to the Android app anytime soon?

I'm working on the changes that will let users choose the game system when they create the tournament. Unfortunately when I made the app, I slammed out a quick and dirty version that made some concessions just to get X-Wing working. I have to remove X-Wing specific stuff to make it generic and able to handle multiple game systems. It sounds easy, but this means I have to find a way to run 4 games on 1 screen instance or create 4 screen instances, one for each game. Not simple, and I don't want to over complicate it or I'll be working on this till April.

Right now I'm involved in a Beta test that is taking up a majority of my free time. Once I've got a better hold on that, I'll be hitting the app a lot harder.

TLDR: Hoping for early February for Destiny app update.

I think Destiny might need a kill points option too like X-Wing. Need some sort of tie-breaker and character hit point values killed is probably the way I will go.

Yes, we had a 3 round tournie a couple weeks ago. We had two people go 3-0 and played for first/second. We had about another 8 people go 2-1 for third place. 3rd was ultimately decided with a dice roll off. I am not sure what is a good way of determining this but there does need to be mechanism.

Should have been 4 rounds. You should always have as many rounds as it takes to guarantee no more than one undefeated player. 5-8 players = 3 rounds. 9-16 players = 4 rounds. 17-32 players = 5 rounds, etc. Then you compare each tied player's opponents' win % to break ties. After that, ya random to break further ties I suppose. But playing the appropriate number of rounds helps a lot.

True. I don't think the store actually thought that many people would show up.

Why develop you own tie breakers? The tournament rules already detail three levels of tie breakers.

1. Strength of Schedule

2. Extended Strength of Schedule

3. Random

Only time I've had to deal with the final tie breakers is in 3 round events. Otherwise it's been sufficient.

FWIW, you can run Destiny from TOME already as well. You just have to do "custom" and type in the parameters for Destiny. I have done it and it works fine. I assume FFG will eventually update it (prolly around Worlds , when they will need it themselves) to have a "Destiny" template so you can skip the typing in stuff.

Cryodex is also a great tool, not trying to rain on the parade, just informing.

Hi there, where may I find a link to download TOME? Thank you in advance

Been using Cryodex for all our Destiny Tournaments, it works great.

One thing that would be a great addition is a a way to put in character builds that people are playing and have that show up on the tournament report.

Any update for this software?

We've been having issues with it not resolving players with correct records. Last week 14 player event 2 2-0 players got pair downs when they should have played each other. They went 3-0 and it still didn't pair them together. it paired a 2-1 against them.

The week before the 2-0 players met and played. The 3-0 player got paired to a 1-2 player instead of the next 2-1 player in the next round.

Also some of the strength of schedule numbers seem to be off. One player had a better SOS number when all his opponents went 1-3 over a player that played people that went 3-1, 3-1, 2-2, 1-3.

This is the first I've heard of problems. Can you send me a save file with an example of the problems?

Hi Killerardvark. My issues have been X-Wing related. I used it for a regional a week ago and had updated the version to the latest. We had problems from round 1, though no problems seemed to exist with our basic testing prior.

In particular we could not generate a new round, Each player had their scores updated, a green tick next to their name, but as we found out the software would not generate a result, for what seemed random pairings.

We did have a bye, if that matters.

After a delay in trying to get this fixed, we eventually used our back up solution.

Just thought you should know. :-)

Yup, that one was on me. I was fixing something for a system open and broke any game with a bye. There was a workaround, but it wasn't obvious. Basically you had to switch to manual mode and complete the bye player's game. Anyways, this is now fixed.

You can always download a previous version or send me an email. I'm usually available to help.

Are you the guy from Kentucky area? Gordon said his group was having a rough go of things. Sorry!!!
