heychadwick will be scarce in 2017

By heychadwick, in X-Wing Off-Topic

Hi Guys,

I don't know if anyone cares, but I'm starting a new job tomorrow and I'll actually have to work for my pay check. The past year had me doing almost nothing and living on the forums for way too much time. I've got to train up for a while and I don't know how much free time even after that will be there to poke around the forums. So...if anyone is curious why they don't see me posting on every other thread...that's why.

If anyone cares, that is. :)

Also, the ankle is doing fine. I finished physical therapy. It doesn't hurt too much unless I stand for a long time or take a long car ride. I need to build up my endurance and do all those things that make it hurt, so even if it hurts, it's what I'm supposed to be doing. Also...my PT doc was a big Star Wars fan and we got to talk a lot about Rogue One and all the EU stuff (plus crazy theories of who is Snoke).

Congrats on the new job, hope it all works out ok (didn't you say elsewhere you have some expensive college fees coming up?! :( )

...I'm kinda hoping I can get some more work than I've had for the past six months (Brexit :( ), as been dipping into the savings far more and earlier than I'd hoped - can get at pension cash now, but want to avoid that as long as possible!

Anyway, hope you can pop in fairly frequently...are you still going to be involved in the "Shuttle", or is that going to be too much commitment ?

Cheers ;)

Congrats on having to work for a living ;)

What were you doing before and what will you be doing now?

Great!!! New Job. Less Pain. And more money to invest in X Wing. Prost!!!

Sounds like good news to me, just don't be a stranger!

We will certainly be missing you, but great news! i wish you all the best and hope that you still show up casually once in a while (<- see what I did there? :P )

Good to hear about the job and ankle. It is a sad truth that making a living is more important than X-wing, but hopefully we'll see you around still from time to time.

All the best in the coming year. :)

Good luck to you. Sounds like interesting new challenges on top of the new position.

I'm having to switch back to high gear myself as one project winds down and a new assignment heats up. I love running high gear but getting up to speed after being slow for so long always sucks.

Also, glad the ankle is getting better.

Good to read the ankle got better. You had more than a fair share of misery with that one. Congratulations on the Job!

Enjoy!

Wow...I got more responses than I thought I would. There was a snafu with my papers getting started, so I have one more day of freedom. Let me go through the questions.

  1. Podcast: I will still do the Shuttle podcast, but I am worried about getting enough gaming in. You see...the best game store that I like is north of town up the worst stretch of overcrowded highway. Construction to improve it has made it even worse than normal. I live not so far from it, so no big deal. My new job is on the south side of town in the most overcrowded section there. So...I'll be driving from one bad location to another. Not sure of my hours and all that. Not sure how much gaming I'll get in. I'll have to see what I can wrangle.
  2. JOB: What do I do? Well...I was working at one of the major banks as a combo role of Technical Project Manager and a Design Team Lead. That means when an application team needs servers to run their software, they engage me and I help get them the right servers in the right data center with all the right connections, bells, and whistles. I try to do it on time and in budget. My new job is at a smaller company that a multi national bank. They bought a few other companies and need to consolidate their data centers by moving servers to new ones. I will help with that as I have a lot of experience with that. If they like me, then I get hired on full time as their first regular Project Manager. I'm happy as I will also get to help with the technical side of things, too.
  3. More Money : Well...I'm not sure about more money. I will actually get less than I am now, but more security with the chance to go perm soon. I do have a daughter going to college soon and she's looking at all the expensive ones.
  4. ANKLE : Yes, it is getting better! I won't really know how it feels until a full year after the surgery, which means August. I hate to say all better now as it still is sore and aches, but just much less so. Still...it is improving! Maybe one day it won't be a bother. I still have handicap parking sticker for a couple of months.

I greatly appreciate everyone's posts. I wasn't sure if anyone was going to even say anything.

Glad to hear everything is going well for you, hope your ankle continues to improve. :)

Well....the guy who was supposed to order my new laptop was on holiday vacation. I'm not starting till Monday.

Time spent focusing on work and improving your skill set is far more valuable than excessive time spent on hobbying. I've personally went through unemployment and spent so much of that time distracted by hobbies that it dried up the fun for a few years.

Good on you. Study hard, work hard.

Also send me your ships. You don't need them anymore.

Ha! I'll still need the ships! That's for sure.

I do look forward to being busy. My last job had way too much free time, especially the last few months. It's a tedious day with not much to do. I do look forward to

Congratulations on the new Job! And God bless you in the new year!

If you gone with the bionic like I said you'd be able to stand around in slow mo to your hearts content.

Well....the guy who was supposed to order my new laptop was on holiday vacation. I'm not starting till Monday.

When new guys start here, it usually takes a few weeks before everything is in order, all the accounts, access rights, everything. And that's while they're hanging about at work. And that is at a top 50 bank, so size matters not. :P They all still screw up.

You do get paid while waiting right?

LOL - good point. Last project the client hired people in and took days to put a computer on the desk in front of them. A week later for access to the network and two more weeks for the phone. Ridiculous! Heychadwick, don't count out your Xwing time yet!

You do get paid while waiting right?

You are kidding, right? No, I do not get paid. It's another week without a pay check. My wife is quite frustrated about this as she's the smart one to handle the bills. Also, her minivan just needs to have $800 work done to it. It's quite frustrating. We could take the 10 days with no pay, but one extra week is pushing it. Then throw on the car repairs.

I had to ask my family for help on my car repairs, understand completely.

What is that Mal always says? "find a crew, Find a job, keep flying"

Good Luck brother. Your contributions to the X-wing community are always valuable.

Well...I did find out that this site isn't blocked via my new company. I still will be pretty busy, but at least I can check during lunches.

Feels like I'm popping into the middle of a story after missing the prologue, but you're a constant positive person on the forum, so here are some positive vibes right back at you! Hope it all works out! :D
