Statting K2SO?

By bradknowles, in Star Wars: Age of Rebellion RPG

Folks,

I just saw “Rogue One” for the second time, and watching certain scenes more carefully, I started to wonder how K2SO might be statted in this game.

I’m interested in both PC versions (basic and Knight-level), as well as NPC versions.

I don’t have any real thoughts yet, I’m more interested in exploring the potential.

Thanks!

I was actually searching for that thread, before I created this new one.

However, I made the mistake of only searching for “K2SO” and “K2-SO”, not “K-2SO”. Sigh….

;)

Given that he was shot probably 20 times without going down he must have had an absolutely massive soak rating, in the realm of 9+, given that the stormtroopers are using blaster rifles/carbines.

So I guess it's safe to assume he had a pretty high strength. He could lift Jyn with one arm like she was a toy, so a strength of 5 or more seem likely.

Since droids in SWRP are assumed to have most of their equipment as integrated components (Like, droids don't wear armor, if you put armor on a droid you just assume it has an armored shell) his capabilities can also be in part explained by equipment. . His plating would definitely have to be laminate or heavy battle armor, maybe even with the superior quality. Since cybernetics are just more customizations for droids I'd also assume a brain implant, strength implants, and subdermal armor (which is just thicker armor on the chassis).

The movie never entirely goes into what the original function of K2 droids is. Since we don't see them much outside of this one movie they are probably pretty expensive and it would make sense that they have some really high grade gear.

Maybe they are a kind of beefed up protocol droid that can serve as a bodyguard for imperial officials and do manual labor as well.

K claims at one point in the movie "but what would I know I'm just an analyst Droid" which could be a hint towards the models original intended design. Perhaps Military Analyst Droid is what they do. The Brawn of the design is mostly because of Plot, but I can see reason for that to be helpful for field use.

He definitely isn't Cunning, or have any Presence, it's all about the Intellect, Brawn and Agility, probably in that order. Engineer Mechanic fits well for him, with enough of everything to get you by. Analyst would have been the original Specialisation but he has been reprogrammed, perhaps that's his second spec though since he does a lot of slicing at the end. He definitely moves more fluidly than the other ones we see, and he shoots and flies rather well.

So I would stat him as 3,2,4,1,2,1. Then a dedication to Agility and some cybernetics for Brawn. Honestly even Knight Level isn't even quite enough to make everything fit, but a spread of 4,3,4,1,2,1 seems about right to me. Perhaps XP into Cyberneticist to represent his reprogram, make his own Cybernetic Arms for a discount. With that Brawn, the Enduring from species and another from Mechanic his base Soak is 6, throw on some armour and that's an 8, perhaps if it was custom armour it could even be a 9.

Spec is Diplomate: Analyst from AoR.

Brawn 4

Int 3

Agi 2

Rest 1

A few ranks of computers, a few points in his analyst tree and cybernetics for enhanced strength to bring brawn up to 6, escape circuit and maybe some slicing cybernetics.

Nothing special overall. I don't think that the movie version has even reached knight level.

I thought KX-series droids were security droids? "Security" in this context could mean more than just physical security, I suppose it isn't too much of a stretch to include cybersecurity/IT, data security, analysis, etc. as part of their portfolio. After all, there's more to security than padlocks and pointing blasters at the bad guys.

My notes:

The Databank calls him a "Security droid"

He calls himself an "Analyst"

Stormtroopers are not surprised to see him "Escorting Prisoners"

He appears to be armored

He appears to be pretty strong

He's skilled in Ranged light and brawl as seen in the films

He's got a computer interface system and by extension probably also has ranks in computers...

Soo.... It almost sounds like the Empire decided to make their own evolution of the Tactical Droid. A kind of field support droid that can collect and analyze intel in the field to directly support officers at the brigade level and below, but has the physical strength to also do things like perform sentry duty, help load and unload supplies, kick in doors, escort detainees, and so on.

That said were I to make one as a PC, I think SEApocolypse is probably on the right track, emphasizing Brawn and Int, taking the Diplomat:Analyst as the base and probably adding Recruit as a secondary to bump up combat a bit. It's an odd build I agree, but the talents and such line up pretty well to what you see on screen without the need to make some kind of five spec super character.

Exact equipment and build would depend on Starter or Knight level, but much like other in-film characters, if you're willing to make the effort and scale back expectations a bit... it's doable.

Per the Visual Guide, the KX series was classified as a "security droid" to squeeze through a loophole in the post-Clone Wars law forbidding the production of battle droids.

"When the Senate rolled out a mandate prohibiting the creation of battle droids, Arakyd Industries was able to curtail these restrictions by classifying the KX-series strictly as security droids. Their programming included built-in exceptions to the usual hard-coded restriction against harming organics, and defaults to recognize and defer to Imperial military personnel ranked lieutenant or higher."
