Augers

By Godwinne Van Meer, in Rogue Trader

How sophisticated are auger systems in your campaign?

Can they detect lifesign on a planet? A vessel?

Can they detect lifesigns well enough to lock on with a transport beam?

Do shields block their functioning? Or merely provide a negative modifier to success?

Do you vary the information provided based upon the number of sucesses rolled on the test?

Do they vary widely in their abilities based upon type (the various Imperial ones listed in the RT book) or by race (Orks vs. Eldar, for example).

Probably about standard for 40k. They're augur arrays, not one big sensor, so you get a lot of information in diffrent forms to interpret. A sonar-style outline, emissions and their levels, that kind of thing

Can they detect lifesign on a planet? A vessel?
Yes, though with no great precision. A small group of people is effectively invisible, while a city or full spaceship lights up like a fire to the emperor.

Can they detect lifesigns well enough to lock on with a transport beam?
No, but teleportariums are so rare most people won't have this problem. They may be able to pick out a clear area and it's co-ordinates, but coming back requires a homing beacon.

In ship combat, the shields aren't an issue, but given how Tenebro Maze etc. works, they don't pick out a component so much as fire in it's general direction as indicated by the power readings.

Do you vary the information provided based upon the number of sucesses rolled on the test?
Of course.

Very much so. Even within that faction they have countless different versions. These all boil down to different modifiers on certain tests, and likely overlap with certain imperial models.

Augers are your eyes outside the ship so I see that its developed gather as much information as possible and leave it to the voidmasters to read it and intrepit. shields may not let it see whats in the ship but will let it see the ship itself. Teleportariums and Augers are two different systems that use info from one but act seperatly from what they do.
