Fat-Han with Expertise instead of Predator

By IG88E, in X-Wing

Why would you even WANT Fat Han, or any other 50+ point 3 red PWT with no real action economy to speak of?

- Scum have cheaper fatties with mobile arc doing the same job, only better, because they're saving some 20-30% points on the transition, and get their targets to be considered "in arc". Oh, and 2 greens with better pilot abilities and upgrade options.

- Imperials have ATs and Defenders, so they're even less impressed.

But wait, let's go through all this again, shall we? So you've got Gunner, Expertise and what not, let me take 1 damage on one of my 6-health Defenders. This is all your 50-odd points will do this turn, with perfect rolls and no control applied onto you, either. Bravo!

This is exactly why Dengar is so much better. And not because of Manny, sillies! See, Manaroo is like Biggs, Palpshuttle, or docked Phantom - it's a real boon, but actually costs hard space credits.

Now YTs in general have this nasty habit of not earning those credits back, because even if everything goes great, you're only going to do so much damage a turn.

Dengar on the other hand, will potentially double-tap someone, and rub in some Painbot while he's at it.

Why do people even try Rey pilot is beyond me. Sure, it's basically the only YT pilot HotR got, but you're paying some 59 points to kite out a PWT ship with full focus on keeping it's target in arc, lol.

The joke's on you this time, don't you get it? Accept the fact, that upgrade cards and Jess is all the good stuff you've got, and put that Rey to use on an unstoppable Kanan WarRig Ghost. There, job done.

A fat Han has plenty of action economy - that's what this thread is about. No, he doesnt normally have the ability to take multiple actions, but that isn't the only way to come by action efficiency.

Expertise gives you focus for both attacks which means you dont have to spend an action on that - C-3Po acts in most cases like a psuedo evade that can combo with an actual evade token (which you can take as a result of not needing to focus) to cancel 2 damage per turn. Alternatively you can boost to dodge arcs, while still having expertise on attacks. Then Han has a native ability to re-roll attack dice. The same applies when you have predator + luke.

Putting 1 damage on a defender is infintely better than putting no damage on one. Don't forget that even a fat han is less than 2/3 of your list which leaves room for another ship which can balance his weaknesses.

Lets not forget that a fat han made the top 4 at worlds this year so it can be competetive in the right hands. Moreover some people fly certain ships because they enjoy them. This thread is about how to make Han the best we can not about whether Dengar is better.

I've actually flown Han along with a bomber K-wing with a lot of sucess recently - its probably the best win ratio I've had and more importantly the list I've enjoyed playing most. So my recommendation to anyone who wants to dust off their Han again is that he is viable in the meta and probably slighly more so than before now that expertise is out.

I'd say it is good. Probably better than Predator as it allows you to double mod shots when you aren't in any arcs. That ignores stress-dealing, though.

OP gazed into Wave 5 Hell and the fat turrets gazed back...

I don't think that Fat Turrets are going to suddenly dominate the meta again. TLTs counter them and plasma torpedoes hurt too much for them to rule the roost. However they have a lot going for them, particularly with the right wingman/men/women and we will see them take their place as one of several viable list archetypes.
