Poll: What Dice Do YOU Value?

By Sygnetix, in Star Wars: Armada

I'm curious as to what people value most in their ships so I've started compiling some data and am currently running some numbers in PowerPoint to take a look at ship "value" based on arbitrarily appointed values between generalized stats such as Survivability, Anti-Squadron, and Anti-Ship in relation to their cost.

If you choose to participate in this poll, I ask that you disregard specific ship "roles", what-ifs, and lengthy discussion and simple answer in the following format:

If you value Red most, comment 1.

If you value Blue most, comment 2.

If you value Black most, comment 3.

Currently I've assigned values to each of these dice in the order of range with Red being 1 and Black being 3. I feel as though this scale provides a good measurement of "X kill potential."

I am by no means a mathematician so this might go no where, either way I appreciate any input I get.

I know everyone has an opinion OR are curious as to what I am doing. All I can say is that I'm doing this for my own curiosity and will openly share any "information" I obtain regarding these findings.

Thank you and Happy New Year!

PS: Thoughts to those in Turkey who have fallen victim to yet another senseless act of violence tonight.

Red so I am supposed to say comment 1. Maybe I just have good luck with them, but they are the best for me.

Just an idea as to what I'm currently playing with (and these values are subject to MASSIVE change)....

Comparing a Gladiator I with a Gladiator II in the Anti-Ship category, I've got an Anti-Ship Value of 2.8 vs 2.2.

I arrived at these results by assigning red, blue, and black dice the value of 1, 2, and 3. After calculating the total of dice based on that value, I am dividing the dice color "score" with the total number of dice.

I'm also working towards calculating a ships survivability based on shields, hull, and movement speed (which I'm using as a modifier and classifying it as utility).

I haven't yet looked into assigning a weight based on small, medium, and large bases, nor have I assigned individual values to defense tokens, This "study" is in it's infancy and may or may not even go anywhere. I'm just curious what ships values are based on baseline stats.

BLACK but RED good also. I like high damage.

I rarely want BLUE. Only accompaniment of high amounts of damage AND with modifiers to fish for accuracies.

2.

I value blue dice because I prefer reliability in my rolling over chance to spike

Seriously, everything. Red because of its range, blue because it always rolls me something and black because of its awesome power.

depends on what I'm shooting at and with

Red with TRC and Salvation

Blue for killing Flotillas

Black are great when you roll the hit crit but for some reason mine only roll blank

I think all the dice are well balanced some will say Blue are the best but when a squadron roll 4 crits against another squadron how good are they? red are bad till a Z95 1 shots a Defender. 4 Black dice are great on Demo when you get the 8 hits till Lando Brace and Redirect nock it down to 2 hits and APT gave a lousy crit. They are all great in there own way and bad as well. The only dice I really hate are my blank ones

BLACK!

I love the Black Dice so comment 3, I love just getting close and letting it all rip and watching the mass damage and carnage unleashed against my opponent :D

BL3CK!!!

All of them each color has a specific role in my attack patterns and none is more important than the others

You are forgetting you can get Blacks on Salvation now :P (Sato) So you can replace TRC with DTT

I guess Red? Because I play Rebel and its our most common Dice.

But I do like the blue/black combo on the MC30's.

I value having a combination of red and blue on ships because it provides a larger max value for damage combined with consistency and accuracies.

If we are allowed more than one color this, so this. I will take red/blue over red/black, blue/black, or even Red/Blue/Black any day.

I think I'll keep my value of 1, 2, 3 for red/blue/black in place but assign a multiplier for range in an attempt to reflect the usefulness of Red and the limitations of Black. Maybe a Red/Blue/Black of 2, 1.5, 1 (so the numbers do not start getting out of control).

Ok, this is going to take a week, maybe more, to compile (life with having two kids under two plus being in school full time) but I wanted to share to see if anyone had any input. Before I proceed, let me reiterate that hull, shields, defense tokens, and speed will all be taken into account <eventually>. The following is an attempt to assign values to a single aspect of a ship. In this example....dice.

For Clarity, each color dice has been assigned an anti-ship value. Red (1), Blue (2), Black (3). This is to reflect raw ship kill potential.

In an attempt to account for the tactical flexibility of longer ranged attacks, these values have ha a modifier assigned to them. Red (2), Blue (1.5), Black (1).

Ok, so let's plug some numbers and see what we come up with.

Updated Example Contrast: ISD

ISD-I

Dice Total:
Red - 8 * 1 = 8 * 2 = 16

Blue - 4 * 2 = 8 * 1.5 = 12
Black - 7 * 3 = 21 * 1 = 21
Dice Total: 49

Divide by the total amount of dice:
49/19 = 2.6 Anti-Ship Value

ISD-II
Dice Total:
Red - 9 * 1 = 9 * 2 = 18
Blue - 10 * 2 = 20 * 1.5 = 30
Black - 0
Dice Total: 48

Divide by the total amount of dice:
48/19 = 2.5 Anti-Ship Value

So in the case of the ISD, the ISD-I has a slightly better raw anti-ship score. That said, for 10 points the ISD-II provides longer ranged anti-ship and longer ranged anti-squadron.

The initial findings are proving that FFG has done an excellent job of balancing not only the factions but the different play styles of ship types as well.

Once this initial testing phase is complete (I'll probably run anti-ship numbers on all ships in both factions as a test pool) I'll more than likely continue to develop this data in order to incorporate factors such as hull, shields, defense tokens, upgrade slots, speed, and anti-squadron armaments.

If I find anything interesting, I'll share it here.

I've honestly found having large amounts of red to be the most effective for me. By the time my opponent gets in range with his black dice he's typically already dead. That's my experience anyways.

I would like my red dice best, if they did not roll 3 out of 6 dice blank 75% of the time, and 4 out of 6 the other 10%. they are really badly balanced. I rolled 1000 times testing them after I noted they seemed to roll crap. averaged out to 1.5 damage on 6 dice :( no where near the damage they should be rolling. sadly I have some very badly made red dice.

but I love my Black dice I'm hitting with 8+ damage on 6 dice 70% of the time : :D

I would love to have a fast ship with 2 blue and 4 black dice attack on 3 facings. : ;) I would never field anything else. :)
