Hello everyone,
I plan to go to the local game store this Thursday and play my first official game of X-wing. So far I have only been able to play with my wife who was conscripted against her will to be my opponent. That being said I cant really play with the upgrade cards with her because she gets overwhelmed and to be honest, a watered down game of X-wing is better than none at all.
Unfortunately I have more money than sense sometimes and I bought some expansions without putting much thought into what they come with. So far I have bought both core sets, Most Wanted, Heroes of the Resistance, Imperial Aces, Millenium Falcon, Slave-1, Tie Fighter, Tie Advanced, Tie Interceptor, X,Y, A, and E wings, HWK-290, StarViper, Kihraxz, and ARC-170.
I have Rebel Aces, T-70, K and B Wings, and a Z-95 coming in the mail along with a playmat for the house. They will not be here for another week though. Since I do not have Rebel Aces to make my A-wings cheaper, Is the below list effective at all? I'm not the greatest pilot but I have been practicing flying swarm formations and just practicing getting around obstacles on my own. I know a real opponent is going to be completely different than playing my wife who cant wait for the game to be over. With what I have, and knowing I'm not a veteran player, is this an O.K. list for the local game store?
E- Wing Corran Horn (35)
Push The Limit (3)
Advanced Sensors (3)
R2-D2 (4)
Engine Upgrade (4)
T-70 Red Squadron Veteran (26)
Push the Limit (3)
BB-8 (2)
Primed Thrusters (1)
Integrated Astromech
A-Wing Prototype Pilot (17)
I have watched quite a few of the games in the store while buying expansions and stuff for other games. The local crowd seems to be very friendly and isn't too keen on flying power lists as the norm. They seem to favor more friendly games trying out abstract lists with weird combinations. WH40K got me into miniature games and that quickly progressed into 30K (forge world is expensive). I like the Imperial Fists and am anal about painting. Yellow is already slightly difficult and I don't like accepting inferior paint jobs so the army was taking too long to build.
And then I found X-wing! Always a long time fan since I was a kid. I have read at least 150 SW Novels over the years and was really disappointed with Episode 8 but was relieved to see they made Rogue 1 fit the established story line. Either way, the models from the new movie look great and they are already painted so I can play now without obsessing over paint jobs
. Thanks for any advice.
