best small ships

I just started playing xwing a couple of days ago and want to buy a few small ships to get my power up

I decided to side with the rebellion for my first set , which other small ships should I buy

A-wing, Y-wing, T-65 X-Wing, T-70 X-wing, Rebel Aces.

You're going to have to branch out to get some of the better upgrades that are only available in Imperial or Scum ships, unless you proxy.

Go to http://xwing-miniatures.wikia.com/and you can nose around to find out what upgrade cards are in which expansion. It's good to have more ships, but I'd go ahead and proxy some things (assuming where you play, they are cool with that) before dropping some coin.

Define "best"

Ie i define it by ability to modify dice because without consistency youre consistently screwed

For the rebellion, your 3 strongest standalone small ships are shield regenerators, because they can "undo" bad rounds of dice by using r2d2 to get shields back

Stacked with other defenses, they become incredibly difficult to kill

These are

Corran horn (E)

poe dameron (ep 7 core)

Miranda doni (K)

Norra Wexly (Arc) is also really good but she needs more support than the above 3 (ARC be slow; cant deal with focus fire on it)

apart from that,

Biggs from rebel core also has a game warping effect

R3a2 (rebel transport) makes the Ywing and the non Norra ARCs worth taking (norra is a regenerator; works amazingly with biggs to cover her)

and those are basically the strongest the rebellion have to offer ito consistent ships

R3a2 supports your squad by locking down the enemy, regenerators carry your ass to victory

Biggs + 2 bombing K Wings is a fun list to fly and can be very competitive. Load the K Wings with cluster mines, or conner nets once you have Sabine from the Ghost and enjoy swooping in and dropping bombs on your opponents. With advanced slam, it can be very hard for your opponent to figure out where you are going to end up. I had a match this week where my K Wing was wet up outside range 3 facing my opponent. I went 2 forward followed up by a 2 hard left dropped the one of the cluster mines right on my opponents ship hitting for 1 damage + 1 Sabine damage. My opponent activated his ship and flew through the two other mines and rolled 3 damage. His ship was gone in one activation.
