Good K-Wing builds

By Mackaywarrior, in X-Wing

Just looking for good builds for K-wings.

a-SLAM extra munitions Conner net/cluster mine Warden squadron with Sabine somewhere

and TLT Miranda with choice of crew (generally c3po), generally enhanced with

-- drop on reveal bombs

-- A-SLAM conner nets

-- homing missiles

What would be a good low cost k-wing build?

A-slam Sabine extra mun conner net Warden. This is the "cheap" version ^^

K-Wings are hard to build cheap. I've seen people do interesting things with cards like Autoblaster and Tactician on a Warden, though.

Miranda + TLT + C-3P0 at 38 points is the cheapest I'd ever run a named K-Wing in a competitive list.

Warden + Sabine + Extra Munitions + Advanced SLAM + 2 bombs of your choice is the standard bomber build and maybe the best generic K-Wing build out there. It can vary in point cost but starts around 33 points and goes up from there.

Aaron Bonar ran a 3 K-Wing list that had:

Miranda Doni + Tactician + Twin Laser Turret and 2x Warden Squadron Pilot + Tactician + Twin Laser Turret, those are pretty cheap. I like Miranda with TLT, advanced slam, extra munitions, Connor nets, ion bombs, homing missiles, and Sabine crew but she's not that cheap. Can also run Wardens with Connors/clusters, adv slam, and TLTs. Rey crew Miranda with TLT and homing missiles could be good. Save up some focus tokens early so you have them later and can send a couple 5 dice with focus and TL homing missile at a foe.

Don't I know it lol. I am just also looking for more filler ships so I thought I would ask.

WSP, Sabine, adv. slam, EM, proxy mines, Cluster mines, and TLT if you have the points.

Unfortunately, that specific K-wing list no longer works as originally intended. Tactician only hands out one stress with TLT according to the FAQ updates to the attack timing chart, so it's not as effective as it was in the past.

This isn't the ship you're looking for.

You can go about your business.

Move along.

Got a K-wing for Xmas, along with a fair bit of other ships. Not sure what a good build might be for what I got. Never messed around with lumbering bombers before.

They don't lumber when bombing: they generally do a 3 + 1 (base) + 3 move...ie (one of) the fastest ships in the game!

If they're shooting, then sure they lumber slowly. Drop bombs, while moving out of range of being shot; then move slowly to finish off the survivors.

I've faced them played well, and faced them played badly...and played them badly myself!

Honestly I suspect I need to find s 'how to fly' article on it and the ARC-170 before I can figure out how to build one myself. Wold love a good rookie friendly build to learn with.

The rookie K-Wing build is Miranda Doni, Twin Laser Turret, C-3P0. Keep your distance from the enemy, SLAM out of danger if you get caught in too many arcs, and use her ability to regen shields by weakening one of the TLT shots and still having full dice on the other one. If something gets into range 1 or you absolutely need to do just one more damage with TLT, you can drop a shield to make a 4-die attack.

Agreed. It's the only build I can fly well enough to use properly :)

ARCs, on the other hand, are a doddle to fly. These really do lumber slowly around the map. Fly next to Biggs, doing 1 or 2 speed moves in unison. Don't worry about K-turns or what your opponent is doing - you can't catch anything - so just plod along killing everything that makes the mistake of being in either of your firing arcs. They work best in pairs (plus Biggs, of course).

Not my strong suit (K-wing's that is), but....

Warden - Extra Munitions, Bombardier, Thermal Det's, Cluster Mines, A-Slam - 35 points.

Could swap the Cluster's for Connor Net, Det's for Prox Mine (if that's your thing but det's are on reveal, so you save the action). Could drop A-slam to save 2 points but that gives you an easy way to get the Cluster mines out.

Or you could go FILTHY CHEAP with,

Warden - Blaster Turret, Recon Specialist, Vectored Thrusters - 32 points - not the strongest build by any means but if you want to have a K-Wing with something other than fluffy dice in the cockpit it's probably as cheap as you'd want to go.

While it is true they are zippy when slamming, they are far from the fastest ship in the game.

The Warden Squadron Pilot with Autoblaster Turret is about as cheap as you can make an effective K-Wing (comes to 25 pts). Alternatively, Twin Laser Turret K-Wings start at 29pts.

Otherwise, your looking at spending about 35-40pts for the ship depending on how you want to kit it out. K-Wings do pretty well as TLT spam and are unquestionably the best bombing platform in the game at this time.

Ok so question here. I have 2 K-Wings love the beasts but haven't used C Net yet...Is it any good and how do you effectively use it??

Got second place at the Antwerp regional with this list:

BOOM LASERS PEW PEW (100)

Miranda Doni (55) - K-Wing

Twin Laser Turret (6), Extra Munitions (2), Homing Missiles (5), Rey (2), Proton Bombs (5), Conner Net (4), Advanced SLAM (2)

Warden Squadron Pilot (45) - K-Wing

Twin Laser Turret (6), Extra Munitions (2), Sabine Wren (2), Conner Net (4), Ion Bombs (2), Advanced SLAM (2), Cluster Mines (4)

It's a pretty decent build, but has loads of bad matchups.

Conner Net is the ultimate God-King of bombs. Seriously, check this shi* out:

  • Drops as an action and detonates when it touches a ship's base or maneuver template. This makes it perfect to use on low-PS ships, because you know EXACTLY where the opponent's higher-PS ship is and can drop it right on them or in front of them. It's also perfect for Advanced SLAM K-Wings who can move, then SLAM, then drop it.
  • It's as wide as a small ship base and as long as a large ship base, so it's pretty easy to hit with.
  • It does one point of absolutely guaranteed damage. Can't be stopped by green dice. Can't even be stopped by Palpatine. This thing is stronger than the dark side of the force!
  • With Sabine around, it does ANOTHER point of absolutely guaranteed damage. Sabine is the Bomb Queen, and Conner Net is her chosen consort.
  • If it hits a ship that hasn't moved yet this round, or gets hit during a ship's movement, that ship skips its Perform Action step. That means no repositioning, no getting a Focus or Target Lock, etc. Sure, x7 Defenders still get their free evade if they did a 3+ speed maneuver, but...
  • The ship that hit it also takes 2 ion tokens. So whether it's a small or large ship, it is absolutely going to go 1 straight white next round. That's right, the ion effect does nothing the round they get hit (they do their normal maneuver), but NEXT round, because the ion tokens are still there, they don't set a dial and do the 1 straight white instead. Then the ion tokens go away, only after they've done the forced 1 straight white.
  • The above two points means the enemy is left wide open to getting torn apart by your other ships. It's left tokenless one round, and you know exactly where it's going the next. It's a perfect set up to then proceed to focus fire on them or dump even more bombs on them. You can also block the Ion move to guarantee they get no actions for a second turn in a row.

So, yeah, if that doesn't convince you that you should at least try out Conner Nets sometime, I don't know what you're smoking.

Best carriers for them are Warden K-Wings, Deathfire, and Deathrain, though they can be used elsewhere to good effect anyway because they're just so badass.

Nuked a full health manny off the table because no one knows what conners are

Nice. I'm heading to a Regional soon with a bomber list. I'm tempted to print out a "Here's how bombs work" sheet, just so I can save my aching voice from having to explain them to half or more of my opponents. On the other hand, if they don't really "get" how bombs work, that's to my advantage, isn't it? :-p

MY "cheap" competitive K-Wing is as follows:

Miranda-LRS-Extra Munitions-Homing Missiles, TLT, Chopper.

All that being said, Cluster Mines should not be dismissed in the combination with Sabine. More tokens means more triggers for her - I won a few important games by just detonating my own token and then killing my opponents last ship in range one of that.

That is a consideration for pure bomber-lists, though, on a single KWing I'd recommend Conner Nets, too.
