Jabba's Spoilers (Take 2)

By Rythbryt, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

The first effect of Powerful Foes triggers once during setup as soon as you choose the class deck, which is corroborated by the preview article. There is no indication that it works any other way.

You Will definitely have to carefully plan out your setup choices to get the most out of the deck, including your Agenda deck and the traits of your chosen villain. You'll want to choose villains with complimentary costs and abilities. Taking two super expensive villains like Vader and Boba won't work out well. I love that the deck has cards to support bruiser villains like Inquisitor and Bossk or support villains like Kayn and Sorin.

I agree. Maybe the highlight of the boxset. And that's saying A LOT.

My only concern is the deplete ability of Powerful Foes: if you deplete the card, doesn't that also mean the villains are no longer earned?

Plus, Shyla's reward is worded funny in my opinion. "Before you declare an attack" is a weird timing instance. Not sure why it's worded like that.

It's the same found on Boba Fett - seems befitting for her to have something mirroring the Mandalorian.

There is no mechanism to lose earned allies or villains, so deplete should have no effect, and it's obviously intended that way.

Before you declare an attack is obviously a new timing window just before declaring an attack. :D Nah, probably just a clarification.

interesting twists: you cannot earn Jabba himself as a villain

Isn't that the same for every villain in the boxes, save Vader because he's technically a blister pack?

Or does the Jabba blister not give you a way to earn him?

No, the Jabba's Realm campaign specifically prevents you from earning him. E.g. in the Core Campaign, you could still earn Vader via Dark Obsession. You can't earn Jabba in his Realm, presumably due to story reasons.

Ahh, I missed the 'before' bit. That is indeed strange.

Is this on a page that wasn't spoiled in this thread? Does that mean you can't take him with the Nemesis deck? That would be a bummer.

Haha picked up my copy today. Yes it's on the page right before the opening crawl:

Exact wording:

JABBA THE HUTT

During the Jabba's Realm campaign, the Imperial player cannot earn Jabba the Hutt as a villain

some other stuff:

Looks like FFG threw away time period, as suspected before

The new "only 4 agenda cards" includes hidden + open information - bummer since I'm the Imperial player. Exact wording: During the Jabba's Realm campaign, the Imperial player may only have a total of four Agenda cards between his hand and his play area

edit: I've briefly looked over the campaign missions. Looks like there's a lot of surprises (both nasty and pleasant...fitting for Jabba). Mobile and "move X space" will be pretty important here. I'd estimate about 10~12/18 map tiles contains difficult/blocking/impassable terrains. 4 of the map tiles are 1x2 but (surprise!) they will actually be used rather than "backup pieces" like those in TS/Hoth/BG expansions

It's probably clear now, but I'll make it clear for everyone: You can earn Jabba with the Nemeses deck when playing something else than the Jabba's Realm campaign.

Is there any way to earn Jabba other than the Nemesis deck? Like, does he have his own mission you can earn him with, that just doesn't work with Jabba's Realm?

I'm not entirely sure they threw away time periods (though possible), maybe more that they are shifting to stories that don't exclusively line up with the movies. Core and Hoth campaigns are explicitly stated to be after the movies, but this one isn't. In theory they may release an expansion that tires clearly with RoJ and put a time period on that, but for understandable reason, they may be trying to move away from ring everything to specific points in cannon.

Jabba's figure pack comes with an agenda set which contains an agenda side mission to earn him as a villain.

You just can't earn him during the Jabba's Realm campaign by either method. (You can still include his agenda set, I would guess, but the agenda side mission is useless.)

That's good, it would've been a shame to not be able to use him in future non JR campaigns unless Nemesis was used. Interesting that he's barred from JR- I had a feeling he might be playing both sides, or even working with the Rebels entirely

Hero wise: Onar looks like garbage (a weird melee blood mage?), Vinto looks ok but too edgy, and Shyla looks great.

Agenda set: Don't care for discard cards.

Imperial Classes: Hutt Mercenaries looks powerful, but odd it works with non-mercs... though still a nice addition. Nemesis has some hit and misses and looks more like a class you'd choose the for 'story'.

Anybody crack open the a&v packs find anything cool? What about those skirmish maps and missions?

Seconded! If my calculations are correct, either the new Luke or Alliance Rangers map will be the new one in the Skirmish tournament rotation

Does any have a pic of the Dewback Rider model?

Maybe I'm late to the party...but why only the wounded sides of the hero cards...?

I thought the consensus was that the next map will be from Obi-Wan's pack?

I heard from an interview that the procedure to select a new map is to play the heck out of the potential candidates and pick the best and least-exploitable map. You should listen to the BoardWars.eu podcast more to keep current on Imperial Assault. :D

Well, what do the new maps look like so we can start taking bets?

Is anyone willing/able to get me some good images of the individual cards from Jabba's Realm to use at tabletopadmiral? FFG usually spoils them but doesn't look like they're going to. All of the command cards are missing EXCEPT for On the Lam and Tools for the Job.

I also need indentured jester and salacious from the deployment cards.

I do have them added to the database, so you can add them to lists and read what they do in the text version, but I'd like to have the images.

Ideally it would be a scan at decent resolution. You could give it to me all in one image and I'll cut it up if that makes it easier. Or even a cell phone pic that's dead on would be nice. All I see now are the on-the-carpet, crooked and blurry pics, so any improvement would be great!

I don't actually own the game and the person I play with isn't quite caught up yet, otherwise I'd do it myself.

Thanks!
