Countess Ryad "...treat maneuver as..."

By Attackmack, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Im wondering about the timing and rule on how to treat this ability.

At what point must I decide upon treating the maneuver as a K-turn or not, before or after I place the maneuver template?

Since barrel rolls force a decision before template is placed I would guess its before but just wanna make sure?

Before you place the template. If you're treating it as a k turn, that's from start to finish.

k tnx!

To be specific:

Countess Ryad's trigger is revealing the dial, so the only things you can do before effectively changing the maneuver to a K-turn is other effects that trigger off revealing her dial. Thus, you must make the decision immediately, preferably by announcement, before proceeding to executing the maneuver (and touching any templates). This means you must make the decision based on what information you already have – no measuring allowed.

Understood!

In tournament/competitive etiquette I would still be allowed to quickly overlook the board and give it a thought before announcing the change to a K-turn though or is that considered bad play?

No need to hurry more than any other decision in the game. You can turn the dial over and then chew your lip for a few minutes when it's critical. As long as the 'game state' doesn't change, then you can still make the decision. If in doubt, you can always vocalise your indecision so that everyone knows the score. But really this just comes under the golden rule: Don't be a **** .

Yes.

You can't put the template down til you've made your choice, but you can take as long as you (reasonably) like to do so.

Oki good, tnx guys. Ive never played at a club or in a tournament, only with friends and beer so im unsure how things work in an official environment. I know ill be treated nicely down at my local stores so im not worried but just to save my opponents some hassle im trying to get as good a feel for it as I can before I play there.
