New Player Scum List Suggestion?

By eagletsi111, in X-Wing

Trying to start a new player tonight. He wants to play scum, and I trying to build an easy list for him to learn the ropes of the game.

Does anyone have any starter scum lists for a new player to learn the game?

Thanks,

It kind of depends on what you have available:

Black Sun Boba 99pts

Boba Fett Firespray-31 Push the Limit, Recon-Spec, Slave 1 title and EU

2 x Black Sun Ace K-fighter w/ Lighting Reflexes and ID

One or both the K-fighters could be changed out for

Syndicate Thug Y-wings w/ TLT and Unhinged Astromech

Scum aint an easy faction to play

Easiest i can imagine is shadowcaster and two tlt Thugs because theres no mindlink and fewer things to do/worry about action/arcwise, but you still have to position well

List is two r4 tlt thugs and something like

Asajj: predator, latz, gyro thingies, title and stims

Interesting. I was thinking of something like this:

Just found out he likes Boba.
99 points
Pilots
------
Boba Fett (46)
Firespray-31 (39), Veteran Instincts (1), “Mangler” Cannon (4), Seismic Charges (2)
Syndicate Thug (25)
Y-Wing (18), Twin Laser Turret (6), Unhinged Astromech (1)
Black Sun Soldier (14) x 2
Z-95 Headhunter (13), Black Market Slicer Tools (1)

4 thugs with TLT and Unhinged?

if you don't have that many Ys for Scum, you could just do 2 and a Boba for starters. Not sure what you have available for upgrades.

I'm not a fan of any cannon on Firespray-31 because it's a 3 attack ship and so is the mangle cannon and it can only be used in the front arc.

Scum Boba gets great rerolls when surrounded and the engine upgrade along with push the limit gets him in range quick.

If you're on the run the Recon Spec. and Push the limit allows for two focus and an evade tokens.

True, but I also want him to learn the game rules, so I added a cannon so he could learn to use it only in the front and not the back. Building more for a rules learning session than gaming session. Maybe an engine with no Tail gunner and a tractor or something.

Easy mode for sure, but not much to game learning mode

2 Thugs with TLT and R4 Agro, 1 generic HWK with TLT, and Torkil with TLT. You even have room for a 1 point crew on one of the HWKs! Or you could just do 3 Unhinged Thugs with TLT and a Torkil with TLT... At least it makes for a little more fun than pure easy mode.

I like Denger and 2 TLT y-wings.

Dengar — JumpMaster 5000 33
Lone Wolf 2
Boba Fett 1
Glitterstim 2
Punishing One 12
Ship Total: 50

Syndicate Thug — Y-Wing 18
Twin Laser Turret 6
Unhinged Astromech 1
Ship Total: 25

Remember that one of the first things you want to do to land a fish is to set the hook. It may be "easy mode" but it gives him a fighting chance at winning without you holding back you punches. He may have an easier time flying but that means he should be able to pay more attention to your "excellent" flying as you show him how it's done so he may try it later. It's the old "Secret Force" play style adapted for Scum.

The last thing I'd want to give a new player right out of the gate is some technical squadron that has a high learning curve even to someone who already knows the basics of the game. There's still plenty of things that can be learned simply from playing TLT Y-Wings.

Five Cartel Marauders.

For the first game, do the starter set's Luke vs 2 TIES, swapping Talonbane for Luke if he wants Scum. Get the initial basics of the game down like this.

Then do the 100 point list, Boba+K-fighter+Thug.

How did it go? The Boba, Y, Z, Z list looked good for someone who has the basic idea of how the game works to use as a first list.

Hopefully you ran a naked or near naked opposing list so as to not over-complicate the game for a new player. Also, it can show them that you don't necessarily need all your slots to be filled up in order to make a decent list, that flying/positioning is crucial.
