Hi,
Just wondering why people choose the objectives they do and if they are finding themselves picking the same ones, or have you encountered a clever list that really took advantage of the objectives picked?
Hi,
Just wondering why people choose the objectives they do and if they are finding themselves picking the same ones, or have you encountered a clever list that really took advantage of the objectives picked?
Largely depends on your list.
I find myself sticking to ones that have objective tokens because i love VCX100s shuttling those tokens to me lol. Rather pissed off one friend because my VCX that activated via squad managed to rip an objective token right out from under his Interdictor's nose lol. Hes been targeting my VCX's since and its hilarious.
As stated above, largely depends on the strengths and weaknesses of the list in question.
If you are running a bomber fleet, then "precision strike" and "superior position" are going to synergise well with the strenght of the fleet. Since I prefer playing Rebel bomber fleets, that's what I usually run with. The third objective depends on the setup, but "Hyperspace assault" is also a nasty one,
I love the Close-Range Intel Scan mission!
It's easy to build a fleet that can take advantage of this.
In a battle yesterday I got 90 victory points just from rolling accuracies.
chiraneau shuttles a thing?
I haven't really got started with the new objectives yet. For the old objectives, it really depended upon the fleet set-up:
Red
Precision Strike: The quintessential bomber objective
Advanced Gunnery: The quintessential MC80A objective, though you have to be careful since you're giving your MC80 a lot of points.
Most Wanted: Probably the most chosen and least played objective, since you're now trading a cheap flotilla for a medium or large ship.
Yellow
Hyperspace Assault: Gladiator/Mc30/Salvation objective
Fire Lanes: You absolutely have to be certain you can win this, so you need a heavy dice fleet.
Contested Outpost: More of a generic choice if the others didn't work
Blue:
Superior Positions: If you've got fast bombers, then great
Intel Sweep: Hands down the best blue objective of the old ones. You've got a reasonably good shot at picking up the 75 points, and it forces the opponent to engage with you.
Dangerous Territory: Not quite as forcing as Intel Sweep, but useful if you want some of the benefit of Intel Sweep while leaving your own fleet positioning a bit more open
Opening Salvo was required a fairly specific build, and often would just result in the opponent taking a different objective. I saw Fleet Ambush work in some squadron fleets, but that's about it. Finally, Minefields was just too drawish.
In short, I've built lists with all of the above objectives. The new objectives almost entirely look playable. Some of them are almost going to require Strategic, and once you add Strategic, they become potentially insanely good. Ideally, you want three objectives that represent the absolute worst objectives possible for your opponents, and the new objectives are bound to create more combinations in which that will be true.
Precision Strike: The quintessential bomber objective
Rubbish. No idea how this idea carried on. This is the low hull APT objective. Bring all the bombers you like, if you have high hull ships its a terrible idea.
Seen it with motti too often.

The objective is best when you can trickle in damage cards slowly over time, which gives you more chances of flipping a crit on the attack itself, and more chances of spending a damage die to flip up some damage. Granted, that's going to be worse when you can stack lots of attacks on a high hull target, but that's true both for squadrons hitting it or for an APT ship to hit it. In my experience, there's almost one build sitting out there that can turn one of your objectives against you, but I'd say on the whole, you get pretty good return in a bomber list. I've seen that plenty of times.
With the injection of new objectives the choices and tactics are going to be even more varied then before. I found my choices shifting based on my local opponent pool vs a general fleet benefit. That said I do find myself playing smaller Imperial ships often since the release of the Arquitens.
Solar Corona has really turned my Rebel players off of choosing it because I will usually always force their Ackbar broadside to face it.
Blockade Run forces my long range broadside loving Rebel opponents into having less distance to dodge between the edge of the table and my ships as I fly on by.
Currently I am also using Hyperspace Assault again, the thought of 3 Decimator Flights and a Victory II Star Destroyer popping out to my enemies flank or rear just appealed to me.

It's a great objective now that you can run the damage control officer and negate APT. It once again falls into a bomber fleet.
I plan on updating my blog for the first time in forever with all the new information.
right now I really like Fighter Ambush, Solar Corona, Planetary Ion cannons, and station assault.
need to really look at them more and play them before i can tell you what the best is for tournaments.
it does feel now for the first time that their are really options outside of 1/2 per color based on squadrons or no squadrons.
Honestly many of my Objectives other than contested outpost are picked at random
