[Podcast] Intensify Forward Firepower Episode XXVI!

By WWPDSteven, in Star Wars: Armada

You guys danced around the use case for EF! for so long, and then just kind of mentioned it in passing.

A rebel ship...

speed 4...

wants to hit and run...

wants to get in close...

would rather be using non-nav...

wants to run in multiples...

has black dice...

has the number 30 in its name...

"Meh, we don't really have anything that can use this. Maybe CR90's."

Good episode though, your obvious lack of appreciation for the best ship in the game aside. ;) Love the R1H4 eps, and the Dubious Doctor was a good fit. I feel the same way about The Meta: anybody can play anything right now, and I love it.

Sure, that's definitely a use case! Tons of use cases can be considered for every upgrade in the game. But, I'm saying it's a lot of investment for a ship that isn't all that great on it's own, and the MC30s don't really need that boost. You and Caldias are certainly the MC30 gurus, so I'm not saying it isn't needed. But I'd take a wager that we won't see EF Peltas being used in top tier competitive play. As always, I'll be happy to be wrong :)

Yeah, we enjoyed having the Doc and the Robut on. Glad you did too!

And I agree- Armada just feels ripe for so much fun exploration right now!

PtC lived as he died. Tapered.

Great episode as always. I'm about to go to sleep so I won't discuss every little thing, but I think the two big takeaways at the moment is that the meta is really, really, open and that MoV appears to be narrowing. Really makes it an exciting time to be playing Armada, especially competitively.

Also all I'm saying is if you guys can get the monetisation, I will 100% get on that plane to be there for a Corellian Conflict mass stream.

I have to say, should I make a regional this year, I'm definitely planning to run a spoiler fleet. I don't play enough to win big...I just want to spoil others day and keep things close.

Wow, that sounds like I'm a giant ******...but my intent is really to keep things tight and not give up the big loss.

So far the best use of the Pelta I've seen is its campaign capability in the all out assault. The rule book states that all fleets and auras can interact with the exception of your commanders abilities. That means for the cost of a single token, three fleets worth of ships can get that speed change, squadron speed boost, or one shield.

You know there was WAY too much actual Armada talk in this episode. People might get the impression that you guys actually like this game.

I even saw some (probably impostors) playing on Vassal last night with a x6 Arquitens fleet. That's obsession grade stuff right there.

(I'm also hooked on the Arquitens and am desperately trying NOT to order like 4-6 of them **** it.)

Do it. I'll feel better about my own order of someone else does it too. You only need 5, though, not 6 like I went for. That sixth ship needs to be Demo (ugh I hate saying that) to hurt the players that want to bid for second due to Strategic etc.

And no, those were not imposters.

I'm with this. Also in a non-douchey way. Or is it!?

So why does everyone on this show hate Tagge? Certainly the addition of an Arquitens helps, but he always worked for dual ISD2 and he was fine for flotillas. Granted, I brought up the rear of the IL regional at Past Times with Tagge, but I blame the interdictor.

Wave 5 is going to make Tagge great again, believe me. These will allow him to punish people with the double arc on turn 2.

Super episode. I really enjoyed it.

Reinholt, great to hear your voice again since GenCon.

Lots of great humor.

Great Episode, thought Rein and Riha were excellent additions. Very glad to hear the positivity.

Thanks y'all! 'twas fun.

For me, it falls a bit into that passive-versus-activated trap and also suffers from being a defensive upgrade. I have to have used the tokens, which rarely if ever happens on multiple ships at once, and I get more defense token uses but often my ship is nearly dead if it is at the point of having lost plenty of tokens. Probably more important than everything else, however, is the simple fact that taking Tagge means I'm not getting anyone else's ability in that slot!

This.

When you look at Tagge, you have to ask:

1 - Will I get more health from getting tokens back, assuming I can get them back at all (harder against an opponent who knows how to focus fire and completely eliminate ships, so Tagge has diminishing returns against good players), than just taking Motti?

2 - Will I get more from Tagge than just using JJ to spam repair and his ability for the navs, ignoring all the other flexibility JJ brings?

It's not that Tagge isn't better than nothing, it's that for less points I can get guys who probably do more. The specific round timing hampers Tagge in the same way it hampers Garm.

On the bright side, if you lose Garm or Tagge, you kind of just shrug your shoulders and don't feel sad or anything since they weren't contributing that much anyway.

Caldias half-full.

I dub thee Caldias half-full. Bearer of the vessel of the half-waters. Lord and regent of the sunny side.

Don't get too comfortable about this, Caldias. He's going to flip-flop in the next episode because your glass is also half-empty and he's on the fence about it.

Also thanks for the feedback, guys. I'm sorry I let you down. I'll try to uphold the standard of the podcast and be far more insulting and off-topic next time.
