New Player, 1st Tournment List

By Karneck, in Star Wars: Armada Fleet Builds

Greetings everyone. Brand new player here, heading to my 1st tournament this weekend.
I bought a fleet from someone ($650 worth of stuff!) for $300 on Ebay. Normally, I would buy through my local shop, but this was a deal too good to pass up and a great way for me to jump into Armada without spending my entire flexible budget.

The fleet comes with everyone in Wave 1 and 2. And at least 2 of each ship.
Before really diving into the meta and really understanding why it's "good" to pick up at least one ship in a wave (those upgrade cards! *drool*) I ordered CC which arrived at my doorstep yesterday. Hooray more cards!
I do have some more ships and the new squadrons ordered (and I'll be picking up the rest in monthly buys.) but they don't arrive until after this weekend, so right now I have to focus on something that can deal with the current meta while not having the appropriate means to do exactly that. (No wave 3, 4 or 5)

Anyway, since my imp fleet (I feel) doesn't quite have the ability to stand up in a tournament, I elected to do kind of a modified Reb Rieekan ACE build. My fear is that since rebel squadrons are kinda the jam right now, I wanted something that could defeat reb heavy squads, Imp heavy squads (or Rymball) while still having some punch left over to be able to engage ship to ship regardless of how the squadron war plays out. I've heard it stated on here a few times, "win the squadron war, win the game." But I'd settle for a draw and hope I come out ahead on points.

I also did a very small point bid for initiative, 7 points. Nothing crazy as I would prefer to be second player, but I feel my list should do OK even as first depending on objectives of course.

Faction: Rebel Alliance
Points: 393
Assault Objective: Opening Salvo
Defense Objective: Planetary Ion Cannon
Navigation Objective: Superior Positions

Assault Frigate Mark II A (81 points)
- Advanced Projectors ( 6 points)
= 87 total ship cost

Assault Frigate Mark II B (72 points)
- Gallant Haven ( 8 points)
- Raymus Antilles ( 7 points)
- Flight Controllers ( 6 points)
- Expanded Hangar Bay ( 5 points)
= 98 total ship cost

[ flagship ] CR90 Corvette A (44 points)
- General Rieekan ( 30 points)
- Jainas Light ( 2 points)
- Turbolaser Reroute Circuits ( 7 points)
= 83 total ship cost

1 Shara Bey ( 17 points)
1 Green Squadron ( 12 points)
1 Rogue Squadron ( 14 points)
1 Wedge Antilles ( 19 points)
1 Biggs Darklighter ( 19 points)
1 YT-1300 ( 13 points)
1 Ten Numb ( 19 points)
1 HWK-290 ( 12 points)
= 125 Squadron cost

The goal of Fig A is largely to try and draw fire from other ships and cover my Fig B.

Fig B's goal is to activate and support my fighter squadrons and focus on destroying enemy squadrons.

CR90a is largely meant to be flexible support. If they are running a very large non ace squadrons list, have the CR90 join in with anti squadron fire. Otherwise, try and help Fig A by plinking away from a safe distance.

For the Squadrons, the reason for the YT-1300 is for the 7 hull and the escort title. By using Biggs, you can transfer quite abit of damage off my aces onto the YT-1300 if the ranges are right. Otherwise, trying to ensure the 3 escort Squadrons are covering my aces to spread damage while fighting near Fig B for Gallant Haven.

Ten Numb is there to try and get activated by FC for an extra blue to use his special on to kick the ever-living **** out of grouped squads.

My concern is that, depending on objective, I may not be able to wait around for Ten Numb and the YT-1300 to crawl along at speed 2. My goal is to have my fighters meet his fighters near my Gallant Haven.

And if the opponent isn't rocking heavy squadrons and instead has bigger ships like an MC80 or ISD, I feel that the firepower from two Assault Frigates should be enough firepower with the squadron support.

Anyway, thats the best theory crafting I can do because I have no idea what the meta is like in my Region (Oregon) and who will be showing up with what.

1. you dont need the YT-1300 since you have other x-wings. YT-1300 generics are used for their escort ability if you want very little escorts and want to go full y-wings/b-wings. otherwise just use another x-wing to avoid the speed 2 (major drawback). in fact you dont even need that other x-wing. you have biggs and wedge-just transfer INFINITE damage to wedge-7 damage, 50 damage. he still wont die due to rieekan(yes, you CAN transfer wounds to squadrons that have died but remain in play due to rieekan. amazing, right?)

2. Intel is crucial esp for an aces build. you have your HWK, but shouldnt it be Moldy Crow, so that she has braces and even if she gets "killed" she stays alive via Rieekan?

3. you have some spare points. put electronic countermeasures on one of the assault frigates(very powerful in ships with a brace). you dont have a "single important ship" that you wanna be careful with its activation, so you aint that desperate for a huge bid.

4. you seem a new player. remember, assault frigates are the best medium ship right now but they require weird flying. theres a learning curve. anyways, what are your objectives?

1. I didn't take the Crow because I didn't have the points for it, But if I do drop the YT-1300 I could pick it up then.

That's also a great point about Wedge/Rieekan I knew in my mind but didn't quite see it like that. Great point I will be sure to keep in mind during my play.

2. Yeah, I know intel was important, but with Gallant Haven near by, most rolls are usually only 2 damage depending. BUT 4 damage can/still happens. So that will be useful or if I get someplace where my Gallant Haven can't reach and still need to brace.

3. I'll juggle some points and see if I can't get them on both of the Frigs. It is a good card.

4. Oh I've played a few practice games against a friend, I've used them and seen them used, and I've watched tons of videos. The maneuvering and speed is very important to get right you are correct.

As listed.
Assault Objective: Opening Salvo
Defense Objective: Planetary Ion Cannon
Navigation Objective: Superior Positions

I choose objectives that doesn't rely on VP's as much and is helpful to me if I'm second player.

Hows the updated list?

I'd consider 2 GR-75s intead of the CR-9 to try to squeeze in more activations.
