Possible to make a tournament-viable Imperial list with ONLY core set-II, TIE/fo, and TIE/sf expansions?

By xanderf, in X-Wing

As above - kicking around options for a new player to the game (VERY new), who would only have the TFA Core Set, TIE/fo, and TIE/sf for the 'Imperial' side.

Obviously that means the list is TIE/sf + 3x TIE/fo, but...what pilots and upgrades? Especially as these kits seem...VERY...sparse on upgrade cards...

Proxying makes life so much easier, or let the poor guy at least borrow

Specifically, fire control system on the SFs and crackshots on the non omega L tie fighters

Omega L juke + comm is more than tournie viable

Throwing those 3 ship types in a list should be decent enough for local tournaments

How many TIE/fo expansions are we talking here? That kit is pretty great out of the box (IMO, it's the single best $15 you can spend in the game right now), but unfortunately it doesn't give extras for the TIE/fo Fighters that you get in the core set.

Omega Leader with Juke and Comm Relay, and Zeta Leader with Wired, are both very solid ships.

I wouldn't recommend the TIE/sf without at least one copy of Lightweight Frame from the TIE Striker expansion. You could maybe try Quickdraw, if you fly her in such a way as to basically dare your opponent to shoot her, but even there she really needs FCS to be at her most effective.

Omega Leader (21)

- Juke (2)

- Comm Relay (3)

Zeta Leader (20)

- Wired (1)

"Backdraft" (27)

- Sensor Cluster (2)

- Special Ops Training (0)

Epsilon Leader (19)

Total: 95. Add upgrades to taste.

I've been running 3x TIE/fo's and a TIE/sf for the last several weeks now for fun at my LFGS. The list I put up above is a variation of what I use using only what's in the core sets, TIE/fo expansion, and TIE/sf expansion. It's not top-tier competitively, but flown well it's good against other good ships and pilots. The TIE/fo is a nice ship with great pilots.

I strongly advise allowing proxies for upgrades or borrowing them. A Fire Control System on the TIE/sf is almost necessary, and if you can get Lightweight Frame that will help a lot too for its survivability. Swap Epsilon Leader out for Omega Ace and give him Push the Limit.

EDIT: Redid the math on the list I suggested. Not so good at the maths in my head. :P
