curse of the rougarou/carneval of horrors

By glinner, in Arkham Horror: The Card Game

Interestingly, this Minature Market sells the standalones for $13 each plus $6 international postage, making for a total of around £16. According to a import calculator, it's estimated this would not incur any taxes, etc. It's certainly piqued my interest, as it probably won't be much cheaper than that when it's available here. Though that calculator just estimates, no tax isn't guaranteed of course.

The UK limit is £15 and shipping isn't included in the calculation, which just barely could make one pack worth it. The relevant page:

https://www.dutycalculator.com/country-guides/Import-duty-taxes-when-importing-into-the-United-Kingdom/

(I had to re-read it a few times to be sure!)

The limit here is about £33 WITH shipping, so we have a little more leeway if the shipping is cheap. I can get 2.5 LCG packs under normal circumstances, with the current exchange rate. Used to be three :/

I've been using MM for many years and have been happy with the way they ship/pack things, although once they had a box which was mostly packing material since it was the only thing that fit. A bit wasteful, but didn't cost me extra. Just annoyed I had to walk farther than the mail box :P

Cool, cheers for the info! Definitely some food for thought. :)

I made two orders from Miniature Market during the recent sale, and just now I got a tracking number for one of them. That's new. Also, my FLGS has no hint of either PoD scenario ever turning up, so it looks more and more like MM are about to get another order from me.

Same here! Just a pity it could potentially take up to a month to post. Then again, could be waiting months for UK retailers to get it anyway!

Curse of the Rougarou in stock at at Games Lore. The other one isn't even on the list yet.

I've just placed an order, I'll let you know what happens! I've ordered from Games Lore before and never had any problems.

Update! In the U.K. Wayland Games have Carnevale on sale now, not clear if they are in stock, but they're at least available to preorder. They also have Rougaroux there, but that says awaiting reprint, so possibly they have ordered a bunch direct and sold them through. We shall see... I'll keep you updated when my copy arrives.

Wayland Games took my money for Rougarou then the next day changed status to awaiting reprint so won't be using them again ...beware!

In my experience Wayland Games are very good for miniature games but not so great for board and card games. Their customer support staff have always been very helpful though.

I'm in the UK & I ordered Curse of the Rougarou through Wayland Games and got the same 'still waiting' response. I then decided to order 'Curse' and 'Carnevale of Horrors' (+ 3 Netrunner novellas) direct from FFG.

The package came quickly- about 3 weeks- but I was slapped with a Custom Tax charge + Royal Mail Handling... Another £20 on top of my order & shipping...

On the one hand, I would rather order direct in bulk- shipping from America for just isn't worth it for just one item- but then it appears a larger package incurs tax and your paying out either way...

Still, I have the two POD scenarios, and 3 novellas to trawl through. My wallet hurts a bit, but I'm happy... :D

I order from Games Lore, like, twice a week :/

UK update: my copy of Curse of the Rougarou was dispatched yesterday from Games Lore and arrived today.

My copy of Dunwich Legacy also dispatched yesterday from Wayland Games, but hasn't arrived yet.

Yep, they were busy yesterday. I wonder what happened to international shipping over the past few years anyway. In 2009 I could get my orders in 2-4 days. Now it's 6-9 days from the UK. I know I can get things from Denmark overnight, and that was mechanical parts more likely to be held up in customs.

Rougarou available in Orc's Nest (London) now along with Dunwich Legacy.

Alphaspel.se Sweden have 21 of Curse of the RueGarou in stock at time of writing.

I just received Rougarou. My first thoughts - it looks tough and the cards stink. :D Can't wait to try it though. :)

I really like that plastic smell. Also feel a lot more durable than the core cards.

I tried Carnevale last night (I didn't get my own copy yet, but the friend I played with did). It's really tough (and we misread the abbess, too, we thought we could use her to move counterclockwise).

So I soloed Curse of the Rougarou with Roland and killed the Rougarou, I think. Can I get a sense check on the below as I'm pretty sure the actions I took don't work so I cheated XD. I had the machete and knife equipped, along with a clue token.

I drew On the Prowl from the encounter deck and moved the Rougarou to me, as I had no clue tokens on my location (this felt dirty, I assume it's okay to do as on the prowl says its plater choice where it goes and it makes sense that it wants to hunt the player down...).

I engaged with a clue token.

I discarded the knife to perform Fight, adding 1 damage to my base damage for 2, plus machete for 3,plus vicious blow for 4 plus discarding beat cop for 5 damage. I'm assuming looking back that discarding the knife is an attack itself and isn't modified by machete? And maybe the Rougarou moves before I'm allowed to discard and damage with beat cop?

If I don't one shot it, it'd kill me with horror on the next turn.

It's a bloody tough scenario!

I have recently reached out to the UK distributor Esdevium Games about the availability of Carneval of Horrors. Here's the reply:

Hi Florian;

Carnevale of Horrors is due to arrive in the UK at the end of January. It will probably ship to stores who pre ordered it on w/c 06 /02 /17. It has already sold out to pre order so make sure you contact your local seller and reserve your copy.

You can't combine the Knife and the Machete, because each uses an action to make an attack (so ). And it also moves before you can use a free action. Using the cop first doesn't work, since 1 damage is enough to make it move. If you don't have a shotgun, you need Lita Chantler (+1 damage because it's a Monster) and 2x Vicious Blow (they also work with a shotgun).

Fair enough. I'd assumed right after I'd done it that I was completely wrong but had to pack up to leave the house :)

Being cursed and being in that location whilst being attacked was not fun with such low mental fortitude

The curse might not have killed you at that point. Let's say you played by the rules and dealt the Rougarou 3 damage. It runs away, but you still have 1 action (you engaged it and attacked it) to move towards it. You dealt damage this turn, so the curse does nothing. On the next round, you might be able to engage the Rougarou again and deal it 2 damage if you started in a Bayou location. But it's not the case, so you need one more round. But the curse doesn't defeat you then either (assuming you don't get an enemy to kill from the encounter deck), because you can assign the horror it deals to the cop (which you couldn't discard because the Rougarou was gone).

That's a good point, though I would have had to find a clue somewhere to be able to hit him again (though I could've drawn an enemy from the encounter deck I suppose!)

Yeah, you could have still lost later, but it was still possible to win.
