A Fleet update

By GAThraawn, in Star Wars: Armada Fleet Builds

Thinking of ways to update my favourite Armada fleet for waves 3/4/5. The basic idea is to create two indestructible MC80s and grind the opponent down. My previous build used Redemption, Engineering Teams and Redundant shields, but I'd like to try Wave 5s goodies to replace them. It's a squadronless list, so it may not be competitive in some metas, but I've had pretty good results with my squadronless lists in local tournaments.

Faction: Rebel Alliance
Points: 394/400

Commander: Garm Bel Iblis

Assault Objective: Most Wanted
Defense Objective: Capture the VIP
Navigation Objective: Intel Sweep

[ flagship ] MC80 Assault Cruiser (114 points)
- Garm Bel Iblis ( 25 points)
- Reinforced Blast Doors ( 5 points)
- Electronic Countermeasures ( 7 points)
= 151 total ship cost

MC80 Assault Cruiser (114 points)
- Ahsoka Tano ( 2 points)
- Reinforced Blast Doors ( 5 points)
- Electronic Countermeasures ( 7 points)
= 128 total ship cost

Modified Pelta-class Assault Ship (56 points)
- Phoenix Home ( 3 points)
- Major Derlin ( 7 points)
- Raymus Antilles ( 7 points)
- Projection Experts ( 6 points)
- Shields to Maximum! ( 6 points)
= 85 total ship cost

GR-75 Medium Transports (18 points)
- Bright Hope ( 2 points)
- Leia Organa ( 3 points)
- Slicer Tools ( 7 points)
= 30 total ship cost

I like the concept of making a tanky no squad list, but without any real offensive dice manipulation on your big pools I think you lack a reliable source of damage and eventually it will be you that gets ground down by bomber swarms and MSU plinks.

Not to mention that with 4 activations and only a 4pt bid those big fish are almost always going to right where your opponent wants them.

If this plays right into your style, and you can make up for the shortcomings with killer maneuvering then go ahead and rock the boat with this one. But if you are looking to shore up some holes then maybe drop the second pickle and split those points into an APT/OE/Admonition shrimp and 2 naked flotillas to increase activations and provide a hammer to ring against the proverbial anvil that is your tanky MC80. And that shrimp/flotilla group still rings in 12 points less than that MC80 so it gives you some room to add leading shots to the other 80, or maybe a repair crew to one of the naked flotillas.
