A Couple of questions from a new boardgamer

By kwaichangkang, in Battlestar Galactica

Me and a group of friends just bought the game and have played three 3 person games. We had alot of fun, but had some questions come up that were not answered in past posts that we read, but I apologize if they have been answered already:

SICK BAY

-One player was in COMMAND when it was damaged on a Cylon Raider dice roll(not his turn). He was immediately sent to Sick Bay. When his turn came around, he drew ONE skill card, BUT DID NOT MOVE FROM SICK BAY. We played his next turn with no one noticing that he did not move from Sick Bay. On the next three subsequent turn, HE WAS STILL IN SICK BAY. But he wanted to draw his usual allottment of 5 skill cards because he argued that he already 'paid the price' on his last turn when it started in Sick Bay. The two other players argued that he screwed up, no one 'voluntarily' chooses to remain in Sick Bay, that on his original turn in SIck Bay he should have drawn ONE Skill card and then MOVED on the movement phase of his turn. Thought?

In the same game we had a situation in the Brig:

BRIG

-When a player wins a skill check to get out of the Brig, does he IMMEDIATELY gets moved somewhere?

-I had just finally won a skill check to get out of the brig on the ACTION phase of my turn. Do I then continue like a normal turn? Do I draw a crisis card, Resolve crisis, activate cylons(if applicable) etc?

Thanks and happy gaming.

This is how I would read these situations...

The Sickbay is a "Hazard Area", (the yellow and black outline denotes "hazard areas") Players may not voluntarily move into hazard areas. By ending his movement step inside a hazard area, it is effectivly moving there which violates the rule of not being allowed to move there. So, I would say no, he must move out. However, if I am wrong about this, the board itself is quite explicit, "You may only draw 1 skill card during your recieve skills step". This is not a one time penalty, it is a static effect for the sickbay area. He recieves one card, and then must move out to recieve his full load of cards the next turn. However, this seems to be a small mistake. If I were playing I would say, if he got his cards then he had to have moved out of sickbay, if Galactica had been damaged at all I would auto send him back to sickbay and force him to move out next turn. That is "punishment" enough for just forgetting to move the character token.

The brig question is alittle easier to answer,...

The "action" for the brig is, "Pass this skill check to move to any location". Being allowed to move is part of the action taken to get out of the brig. At that point you have already passed your move step, and used your one action to get out of jail. Being able to go anywhere is just the last part of the action you are taking. Now that you are out of the brig, you are no longer under the brig rules though, and you do draw your crisis card The turn you get out. And you may now add more than one skill card to that crisis aswell.

I think the thing to remember is the turn order. When things like this come up, think of the turn order in steps, if something happens on a preceding step it will effect the following steps.

1) I get skill cards.

2) i get a move. I am in the brig and cannot move.

3) i get an action, i use my action to tryto get out of jail and move anywhere.

4) the vote passes, I move to *someplace*

5) I have gotten cards, done my move and action, now it is a crisis card step... The fact you were in jail is irrelevent because at the step you are at now, you are out of jail so you draw your crisis card.

6) solve the crisis; vote, choose as normal.

Hope this helps,...hope I'm right too ;-)

have fun

Napoleon

@ Napoleon you play right with brig.

Now with the sickbay you can stay turn after turn but you cannot perform a volontary move. (I check quickly the rules) So if a player begins his/her turn within a place like sickbay or brig he must follow the rules which ruled them.

Hoping that it helps you.

Areus.

If you voluntarily stay in Sickbay, you only draw 1 Skill card. The game doesn't care if you forgot to move out when you had the opportunity. It just knows whoever is in there at the time of drawing skill cards only gets one.

If you successsfully get out of the brig as an action, you continue the turn as normal. If it is your turn when you get out, draw and resolve a crisis card. If you get out on someone else's turn because of an XO, then you will have 1 action left (if you used the first action to do the jail break( and then the turn reverts back to that player to draw and resolve the crisis card.
