A different U-Wing than in the movie

By RayGuns, in X-Wing

My only complaint is that K2-SO isn't a pilot or crew member.

My thoughts exactly. I'd prefer him to Bistan any day.

Especially since "door gunner" is not an option.

Mostly, however, I wish that people would stop whining about how FFG "dropped the ball" on their personal vision of how the model should be statted. Not to mention the conspiracy theory that FFG is pulling posts off a nearly unmoderated message board.

The only thing I asked myself after watching the movie was... when did U-Wing used torpedoes? Then I remembered an U-Wing shot the AT-ACTs legs and destroyed it. For a moment I even thought that was an ion turret attack, but it exploded, so they were torpedoes xP

Missing K2SO and maybe more info about the U-Wing to make it more loyal like it is on the movie to the game, but there are some ships that aren't that much loyal.

Nope, Visual dictionary confirms this was a heavy ion blaster used by Bistan in his U-Wing - which had both ion and anti-personnel functions (which maybe is why it is not modeled in the game, if say, FFG was told it was mostly AP not AV). The only standard armament confirmed on the U-Wing are the two forward laser cannons - however the VD mentions that the Rebels tend to mod or alter their U-Wings to not only act as scout or transport ships but makeshift gunships by adding the personal scale weapons and the like. If you want, you can say this is where the torpedoes come from.

I've been meaning to take a picture of the U-wing on top of a small base. They made the right call mounting it on a large base. In both landing and attack position, the wings would extend more than a small base length beyond the actual base. That's a lot of opportunities to bowl things over even before you start moving the wings. And if someone for whatever reason has the wings extended perpendicular to the model? Well, now you'd better not get anywhere near the U-wing.

Also, I don't see why you see the need for a shuttle title. The U-wing has 2 crew slots as is.

But there are a lot of ships that over extend their small bases.

The K-wing and Arc are the biggest prior offenders, and their wings extend about half a base length beyond the sides. The U-wing extends twice as far, and potentially in any direction. Hence the large base.

EDIT: Relevant images. First, for comparison, the K-wing and ARC-170

And now, the U-wing in Attack and Landing configuration

And, for completeness' sake, the U-wing with it's wing perpendicular

EDIT: Damnit, Photobucket. My apologies if the images are oversized. I tried to resize them, but they're still showing up too large. Might just be on my end, though.

After watching the movie, Laren Joma is another candidate for a future U-Wing pilot; she's basically the main U-Wing pilot in the final battle, and she's the one piloting a U-Wing with Bistan on it.

it is funny that Bistan crew created the expectation for Bistan to do anything

dude have even less screen time and dialog than Asty :P

He did take down an AT-ACT.

And screamed like a chimpanzee.

On a whim, I put a HWK on the Uwing to compare the size.. they are very close in size. It made me wonder;since they are essentially the same size, would the HWK work better with a larger base. Increase the shield and hull stats to the Uwing.. with the same dial.maybe add a system?

Would that make the HWK better?

I've always thought the HWK was designed as a large base, the dial would fit, it would rather fit with some of the designs (though the HWK in the EU was kinda fluid in its description) and it would fit with the wave: Falcon vs Slave, HWK vs Lamdba
