A Campaign with a Happy Ending

By DarkHorse, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

HI all,

After 2 weeks shy of 2 full years of weekly play, the EotE game that I was GMing has concluded with a climactic ending. This may be the first game that I have ever run that had a proper ending and not just fell apart!

Kimitz the Selonian went with Lando and Nien to join the Rebels only weeks before the Battle of Endor, Kormac the Weequay joined a Black Sun operation, abandoning his shipmates midfight, Turbo Hovercar the Alderaanian doctor was interested in joining the Rebellion but was too busy running away pantless and being shot at to ever settle into any real organisation, Xiann Me the Twi'lek finally got her sister released Black Sun ownership and they both returned home to their relieved parents while Ava Antissa, the Corellian pilot, couldn't stay out of the spacelanes and continued running the Idiot's Array #2438 (a GHTROC 720) along with her new husband, Pask.

When my group started EotE, I didn't know that the 2 women in my group didn't really have an affinity for the setting, that they didn't feel like there was a place for them. Cut to 2 years later, Xiann and Ava (the only 2 consistent PCs played by said women) have had many wacky space adventures, flying the space lanes for a Hutt gangster, double dealing Black Sun agents, having an evening no one will forget with Lando (Jewel of Yavin) and making many friends and enemies along the way. Meanwhile in this same time, SW itself has introduced Rey and Jyn into canon, strong female characters getting the job done in the galaxy. In a way, it feels like SW has caught up to my group and that feels pretty good to us to say goodbye on.

I wanted to put up a post here to say thanks to everyone that has given me ideas, has read what I had to say, has argued with me about rules changes and all the rest. This has been a great community for ideas, artwork and OggDude's amazing character creator program.

My group is starting 7th Sea tomorrow and while I will finally get a chance to be a player for the first time in about 15 years, I will miss Star Wars and Edge of the Empire. I will keep checking in, adding my 2 cents but for now, I will not be thinking about how to include things in my game, what story to tell next or what rules to change or include next session. :)

All there is to say now is thank you for indulging this stranger and - May the Force be with you all.

Nicely done DarkHorse.

Good luck as a player!

Did you have one of these?

Or these?

Awesome! That's the best you could hope for as a GM!

Very nice. In 35 years of gaming, far more campaigns have ended due to real life adjustments, player frustrations, and other types of attrition than by virtue of completion. It's always good to see a story come to some sort of conclusion, especially a positive one like this.

Definitely a cool note to properly end a campaign on.

I've been having a lot of fun with 7th Sea's second edition, so hope your turn as a player turns out to be just as much fun as this EotE campaign of yours sounds like it was. Just be leery of getting into a fight with any trained duelists lest ye be a trained duelist yerself matey ;)

Brother Malachai - I did play the end credit music from ANH to finish the game.

The final scene before a "how did each character end up?" montage was saying goodbye to Lando and Nien after just being in a firefight with Black Sun goons so no medal scene or ewok dance party but it fit our band of rogues and scoundrels better than any celebration would.

Figured you'd at least have a Kegger. :P

Off to a bad start, I am changing characters after the first session but that is me struggling with the rules/system. EotE has spoiled me for other games. :)
