How potent are 4 TLT Y-wings in Epic?

By Mackaywarrior, in X-Wing

Agreed. When I play epic, we do NOT simply line ships up and roll dice. We make a theme: 1) escape- get the transport to jump cordiantes 2) invade- stop the incoming attack force 3) escort- protect the senator 4) or even scum- steal something.

That makes using 12 of any ship not worth it. Also, besides TIE fighter, who has more than 3-4 of any ship?

*cough* everyone who got carried away by their addiction to plastic spaceships?

Let's see: 8 Tie Fighters, check; 8 X-Wings, check; 8 Tie Interceptors, check; 6 Y-Wings, check: 6 Tie/FO, check; 6 A-Wings, check; 6 Z95s, check; 5 Kihraxz, check. Ok, only 4 Tie Phantoms, 4 T-70s, 4 HWKs, 4 Tie Advanceds - maybe I need to get the whole fleet out and count them all again...

Four TLT Y-Wings are not that effective as it's not exactly hard to turn them into two TLT Y-Wings before they get to shoot. A properly tooled up Vector or Requiem will really ruin your day, let alone the fighter escort, and a Raider can delete a Y-Wing before the Ys can even get into range. People seem to underestimate the potency of Huge ships these days.

Properly massed TLTs are a good(ish) counter to Huge ships, but I find torpedos work better myself. The problem comes if your opponent has good anti-TLT kit on their screening fighters and the same kit that is good against TLTs (Autothrusters, Sensor Jammers) is good against Huge ship weapons so there's a high chance that they will.

TLTs should tear apart Epics, almost certainly doing the full 2 damage per ship even against a Reinforced section.

Well any mass fire power should tear apart Epics. The only defense Epics have against TLTs is recover which unless carrying a shield tech kills their energy.

Shield Techs are unnecessary. If you are being shot at by more than 1 enemy, you need to Reinforce otherwise you will generally lose more shields/hull than you gain from the Recover action. Plus by the time you lose your shields you are usually low on energy anyway.

Backup Shield Generator is far better. There are so few crew slots on the huge ships that you don't want to waste one on a crew who might only be used once a game.

Fair enough, but - apart from in this thread - how often do you only get shot at by TLTs?

Touche'

I like the TLT Y-Wing in Epic. They are tough enough to stay around awhile and deal out the damage 1 at a time. I actually tend to use the BTLA4 title; this gives your 3 attacks each turn from the Y. While it's not a lot of damage, it tends to add up.

That's a good point. Fly Roark so the CR90 can shoot at PS12.

Always! In fact, he's basically the reason you don't see much Ethan, who is also amazing in Epic. There's not really room for both.

Four? Try twelve. :-D

Wait. . .does that work? (*Reads RAW*) Ah man, we've been treating combat as going in the same order as activation. But, there is not a Huge Ship Combat Phase :o

Last weekend played 12 Defender x7s. Its was beautiful.

Just curious, would four TLT Y-wings be a good investment in Epic games?

Ok but what about the other 200 points?

How many points was the match? 12x Delta x7s would be 336 points.

In Team Epic at Worlds 2015 we faced a team that included 4 of the things with R4 Agromech. They tore up our Transport and the 4x Brobots did the rest.

Semi-relevant to the conversation - I'd love to see some of the Epic and Team Epic lists from the large tournaments (incl. Worlds of course) but they are really hard to find. Does anybody know where to look? :)

1,000 per side. EPIC^3.3.

We were also required to have 4 "units" of Huge ships; I had a Raider and 2 Gozantis, and my opponent brought 2 CR-90s.

I'm not aware of a comprehensive repository of Epic squads, but I posted a battle report from GenCon 2016 Epic tournament that includes some of the squads.

Also, some squads from the GenCon 2016 Team Epic event.

Thanks Parakitor - much appreciated!

It would be great to have a repository of EPIC and TEAM EPIC games similar to listjuggler. So if other folks have some epic lists from major tournaments, it would be great to collect them in one place
