If they can't take a joke I've got 2 words. "Bye Felicia"

Lol guys... a joke is a joke, come on... Do you want a racist one, an anti-Muslim one ? a terrorist one ? Time to wake up, I've been posting stupidities all along this forum for a while now to have you know that I'm not the kind of guy to be bad at anyone just to harass him/her. Oh yeah I was treated as a racist to have talked about Scots and barbarians in the same sentence...

Anyone who thinks this is an awful joke, then I won't apologize because my purpose was to make a word play, not an insult...

Anyway I won't allow this discussion to go any further because coming here and talking with you is some fresh air amidst the ocean of stupidity that is my reality. We have the luck to be able to discuss friendly and to joke freely while respecting each others around and outside the game we're awaiting. When I first found out that you were a nice community, I said : "no politics, no religion here, we're just true gamers !"

But ok I'll try to not joke anymore on anything related to human beings... back to business

My experience may be a bit different than yours but the groups I play with have generally an equal if not higher number of women in them than men.

That being said, it is hard to get them to go with us into bigger/public venues because of the bad past experiences they have had with "gamers" who give them grief for being a woman in the hobby.

I would like to bring them to a game store for a Magic tournament, or in this case into the Runewars scene without them having to deal with casual gendered insults that turned them off to the wider public in the first place.

While I am sure no malice was meant, they have encountered all the same "jokes" that certainly weren't friendly in their intent and when they hear words from a stranger or see text without inflection and the like online, they will probably assume the worst.

They have to, because they have run afoul of it too often and don't want to be our in that situation again.

From my perspective, it wasn't the fact that the joke was about women. You could have asked, "Are there ladies?" with a response of "As far as the eye can see." Yes, that's slightly sexist and will bother some people more than others, but in my book, deserves no more than an eye-roll and a mental of comment of, "Men. ." But to use the word "b*******" is downright derogatory. I think that is what pushed it too far into being unfriendly and exclusive.

EDIT: As a father of two girls, I don't blame men for being attracted to women, but it does bother me when they are referred to as dogs as if they could be corralled and owned.

Wow wow I had clearly no intent of being insulting to women at all...just a childish joke. If you want the truth, it is maybe the first time in a while that I dare making such a "joke".

Also, while I understand your position, and moreover that a father of two girls is worried for his children and takes my "joke" badly, I have the idea that you go a bit too far, no ?

I mean, I won't tell you my life because I don't want to and you don't have to know it any further but generally women have not had to suffer from any under consideration from me...

As comparing a girl to a dog, please have respect both for girls and dogs they don't deserve to be considered as our relatives. We're all part of the same world. That's the men who invented the submission of everything and everyone on earth... I have far more respect for my cats and dogs than for any person living in my neighborhood...that doesn't mean that I've become a rapist or a murderer or anybody dangerous.

I know also that a girl/woman can do a lot of damage to anyone around her than a man and you don't need to go out with her or being married to her to feel it, trust me... and my reaction , Nothing, I don't want to go to jail for a human, nor man nor woman I've hit on the face because he/she treated me like a sh!t !

So yes, bad joke but you won't hear that again from me because I see that it can be painful among you and I don't want to start any kind of verbal fight here.

And say, the pronunciation between beach and b****** are similar so the word play has been made gazillions times before me, he ! You don't like it, just report it to any of those invisible moderators of ours, I won't protest.

You've been shocked by my joke, I feel a little shocked by yours too, we're on equal terms, let's go on on better basis now ;)

Ok, back to business, what was the topic again ?

EDIT : on a last note I'm against all aggressions against women because it revolts me so much. So, never judge anyone on the base of a joke :) Even here, on the Internet, when you read someone, you can feel his/her mood and degree of seriousness...mine was totally below zero and I was more like a teen having fun for nuts :D . Nothing disrespectful.

Early boards like this set the tone for the camaraderie and perspective of the community for a game. I think I agree that we need to approach our decorum and language in a way that welcomes everyone to join freely without worrying about harassment. Its easy to say 'it was just a joke don't take it seriously' but the problem lies in the nature of seeing a casual reference as a commonplace humor. Studies show that repeating negative phrases, even in jest, alter the schema your brain uses to analyze things. If you are told to scream an obscenity every time you open the fridge, gradually you can develop an irrational anger while working in the kitchen. Crudity, sexism, and off-color humor get repeated, and then pass into parlance for a game subcommunity, an 'off the table' culture when players are gathered in the cantina at a tourney or chatting on forums, and they don't realize that their jokes in one corner of the room are making some group from another part of the state or country so uncomfortable that they have already decided to not bother returning to tournaments in the future.

Gaming has long been a hobby that has been regarded as 'masculine', especially within a subgenre like wargaming. That is slowly changing as our culture comes to see it as a 'group activity' rather than a 'man activity', but negative language towards women and minorities is acting to slow the integration into the hobby. The number of women and minorities participating in board game clubs is exploding at an unprecedented rate, yet we lack the same growth among wargaming. I've seen groups of D&D players whining that they can't seem to get new players, yet every time a woman joins to check out the group, they are so offensive or sexist as to repel her from returning to the group. 50% of potential opponents don't bother to enter the hobby out of disgust with the behavior of a minority among us. I think setting that tone early in the Runewars community, and working together with dialogues like this to help people realize that they are crossing the line, even unintentionally, is work towards a better playing experience for us all and bringing more players into a game we would love to share with others.

TLDR: Be positive and thoughtful about the feelings of your fellow gamers. Those who share our hobbies and passions are not to be mocked or insulted, but appreciated and battled with honor and courtesy.

Man, i'm lectured because of a joke...is this some kind of trial or what ? No, this is a bad joke... and I hope you're all laughing behind your screens. Because, seriously...invoking psy studies is a joke. being offended by a childish joke is itself a joke.

Unboxing video (beat me to it, thanks for posting. You get to see the unpainted and unassembled modes, They even build a model on camera with no glue.

two tickets still available and retail release is the beginning of May.

BoLS seems comfortable enough to put out a graphic banner explicitly stating April 13th. I'm going with that over the notion of "a month after x" until something more official comes along, myself.

EDIT: What with BoW being in Northern Ireland, I'm thinking the release is going to be April 13th for the US and early May for the UK, which matches up with what we've heard about release delays.

Lame

For backstage members VLOG: RuneWars Tables & 4Ground’s New Game shows some of the tables that will be used (fantasy forest, ruined village in snow, desert, medieval village) You also et to see figures in trays set up on the tables.

At BoW, AdeptiCon 2017 Live Blog – Day One , they break down the entire bag and walk through day 1. Dawn does announce they will have a Runewars centric interview posted before the weekend is over along with, she hopes, a play through.

Since a full starter of the game is part of the VIG bag some people could participate in the Hobby bootcamp next weekend from here in the states with actual figures and rules.

What I would like to see is a full 200 vs 200 battle with upgrade cards, full rules and so on.

Now that so many core sets are out in the hands of people not locked under an NDA, I can only imagine it will be a day or two tops before someone posts all the upgrade cards and rules. I'm a little surprised that the rules pdf isn't up yet to be honest.

What does surprise me at least, is that FFg didn't publish officially the rules on the website !

A little more transparency would be great.

The rules have been printed ages ago so that pdf should be on the site; as well as the release date since it's been announced. After all it is reported to be in two weeks' time so they should be confident enough by now to just publish it. I fail to see what purpose the uncertainty serves

they will be. typically FFG releases the rules for download the week before release, so april 7thish? they may release sooner because of the adeptacon copies but im not sure.

Hopefully this is indicative that the expansions won't be far behind the main release!

It turned out it was for a contest, the two Lord Hawthorne models (the unmounted version is half visible on the left hand side) were given away. I do hope we won't have to wait too long for the expansions to give more variety to the core. I know that when the Uthuk and Latari waves are released they will be alongside new Daqan and Waiqar units in the same wave. We nee that Barrow Wyrm!

So very, very much this!

In the short term, I'd really love the Waiqar command article... was so hoping that would be up today...
