I imagine the incongruity here gave lore nerds a heart attack :P

I'm not sure why anyone would care?

Just wait for episode VIII, where they'll reveal the third fourth next Death Star

On BGG photo contests, I guess the folks there are just too used to X-Wing pictures. There's a few every month.

And of course, some of the other photos are really good.

Heck, now that's how you know you play too **** much X-Wing.

It literally didn't even occur to me the anachronism, there, until you mentioned it...LOL. Just so used to seeing them on the table next to each other...hah....

(And I'm usually the one calling it out when it happens, in ships, anyway! "But how can Rey destroy my Palp-shuttle...she hasn't even been born, yet!?")

Ack! That's a... T-70... In the OT. can't stand all you Force-Awakens-Lovers polluting my perfect OT and expanded universe! Just feed yourself to the Yuuzhan Vong already.

Also, super nice picture there. Since Starkiller Base is death star III, it is an acceptable incongruity. "It's ten times the already enormous Death star - we're doomed!" Ha.

X-wing is a beautiful game, but it falls flat for 2D photography. The miniatures are best in 3D, whereas most boardgames are designed to be beautiful in two dimensions, which translates to pictures well.

Think of it more as a Ralph McQuarrie homage.

That's no space station, it's a moon (Mimas I suppose).

Maybe I should enter this one.

BGG is quite... Eurocentric. Just watch what happens when a non-euro wins the Madness.

Why is the Deathstar upside down?

Based on who's perspective, since it's space?

Why is the Deathstar upside down?

Well, it's right side up from a certain point of view.

If it's a picture you uploaded to BGG in the month in question (in this case, November 2016) to any of the game's galleries - sure, why not?

Or you could always submit it to a game gallery for this month (December), and then enter it into the contest that goes in on January 1st (for December's entries).

More folks participating, the merrier!

Extended What? YuZong who?

I take such perverse pleasure in the death of the EU....I know... I am a horrible person.

Those BGG and r/boardgame types remind me of a hive of scum and villainy. That or snobbish hipsters. They egregiously mauled the Dark Souls Board Game kickstarter.

That's because it looks really, really bad. Has nothing to do with being snobbish or hipsters (since that word means nothing anymore), just has to to with not liking a game that looks like poo.

Euro games are good. They may not have the fun 'themes', but the rules and game play tend to be much tighter.

DS:BG is going to be amazing, without their help. Input from those that stayed and gave constructive criticism was heard.

Some euro games are great. Carcassone is fast to learn and fast/fun to play.

Some euro games are bad. Settlers of Catan takes forever to explain, then you lose until you learn the trick they didn't explain to you.

I've seen some euro games on kickstarter that people were gushing over that had a ludicrous amount of rules and phases. Because the rules were "tight" they loved the games, but watching the gameplay videos, they spent whole demos explaining to the non-designer player what they were supposed to be doing in their long disjointed turns.

Worker/resource management games are a snoozefest.

That's like your opinion man.

Settlers takes forever to explain? Dude, what? It takes approximately 5 minutes to explain Settlers. Compared to that it takes forever to explain a newbie a game of X-Wing. And what "trick" do you have to explain? If you're refering to the fact that 7 is the number that comes most often when you throw 2 dice, that's called mathematics, not a trick.

It seems to me you just don't want to play anything where you have to have a strategy and think deeply about how to organize your resources to come out on top, there are plenty of worker/resource management games which are the most balanced and interesting games out there.

If Settlers takes forever to explain to someone, I'd hate to see that person try any game more complicated than Candy Land. It takes like 5 minutes, tops.

But it is all about what people like, and I find games that have low/no luck and rely on effeciency and planning to be far more rewarding than a dice-fest that is dripping with 'theme'. If a game isn;t good without it;s theme, it's not a good game.

X-Wing is about the only 'Ameri-trash' game I like (this, and BattleStar Galactica), and even then they have some pretty big holes in logic and technical writing, with a fair amount of rules bloat for little to no reason.

X-wing can't swing it because when everyone votes, "everyone" includes the women. X-wing is probably 95% dudes.

~My girlfriend thinks this way too... she bought me Armada for X-mas.

To be blunt, downtime in a eurogame is dependent on a combination of player focus, talent at that particular game, and experience with the game over time. I've recently introduced Civilisation the Board Game to some friends, and the first game ran about double time, the second slightly overtime and the third under time. If you spend your downtime planning your next turn, the game moves much faster. This is especially true of eurogames, where you can plan pretty much a whole game and adapt to the interference of other players as is comes up.

Euro games seem to be just as popular and engaging as dice games, so they're entertaining enough.

Also, isn't it fun when a thread derails from its original topic after half a page? I'd say that while X-wing is in the running, both Armada and Imperial Assault beat it in terms of pictures, due to the larger, more detailed figures.

My wife is a cool chick who will give pretty much any game ever made a shot, but she looks at X-Wing with a big old 'Nope'. There is only 1 woman in our local X-Wing group(s). Not sure why that is, but it makes sense...from a certain point of view.

I'll be testing that theory next month, actually! Snapped some 'Armada' shots that came off...pretty well, IMHO. Very similar, though, so not sure which one to run with...probably just end up submitting the one that has picked up the most thumbs on BGG, as it'd have the best chance of winning (I assume)...

(Honestly pretty torn on these - I like the color variance I managed in the ISD shot the best, but the VSD shot when viewed FULL size is...geez...man, I really like how that one came out, as simple as it ended up being...)
