What is the state of Armada?

By Viperous, in Star Wars: Armada

It's been over 6 months since I gave up Armada, since it was taking up the majority of my time.

Now, with a bit more free time available I feel the hunger to play this game again :)

How has the game changed over the past few months? I left this game just as the Liberty and Indicator had been announced as Wave 4 (?). How many waves have there been since then?

I noticed a campaign box set on the homepage, and am interested to know how this works etc.

Whatever has happened to this game, it's nice to be back! :P

Flotillas and Wave 3 are the current hotness. Liberty and Interdictor haven't hamajor ripples. Wave 5 and the campaign just came out so you aren't that behind.

OMG it IS Christmas!

Lyr and Vip in one day!?

We have missed you...

As I posted on Lyr's thread, this is such a great time to get back into Armada. Currently flotillas and squads were dominating the meta, but Wave 5 just came out and should change things up a little bit (I think give more punch to Anti-squad) (Ninja'd by Qube)

The best news is the campaign. I think a lot of new players will really like Armada in this environment. Its basically a 6 player campaign for the Correllian sector. There are a lot of campaign specific rules but it comes with 12 NEW objectives for us to use!

Don't forget about all the alternative squadrons that we also released. Each wave 1 fighter got a new "generic" squad (that is unique) and a new character squad (also unique). I'm about to buy the campaign box just for those.

To answer your title questions that would be the fine state of Minnesota!

Am from Minnesota there no way this game from here I live 45 miles from st cloud and have never found any one that played Armada and other ffg games

Have you heard about your friend and savior Vassal?

No and I dont own a computer only my tablet

Don't feed the troll Slackbar.

Sorry to derail the train Viper. I got into the game when the Interdictor released and it has been a bit of an uphill trying to learn with such a nuanced piece, but the few games I've played it was rather fun when I got it to work.

Armada is played in the Imperial State which is oppressive and endangers us all, not just non-human species. That's why we need to rise up together and Rebel together in something like an Alliance! What say you?!

I've been out for a long time too and the CC Campaign is bringing me back. All the new toys help too but the Campaign looks to be the best thing to happen to this game since.... what am I saying, the game is still only a couple years old and this is the best thing to happen to it.

The current outlook on Armada is heavily leaning on squadrons. Wave 5 offers even more squadrons but it does give us two potentially useful capitals, Pelta and the Imperial light crusier. The Pelta will probably see more play from the unique upgrades it houses but I can see lists trying to fit in a LC because of the cost.

Oh yea, and now we have blast doors that can help out any ship that can use them.

No one believes me that yv666s are obscenely good.

There is a group that plays in St Cloud, and the Twin Cities has a thriving Armada scene. Even down in the Roch area we have a regular group.

Join the Twin Cities Armada Facebook group. And the weekend after the first is the regional tournament at FFGC in Roseville.

I think its available in every state in the US. :P

It's fun and enjoyable

It's fun and enjoyable if somewhat unbalanced in favor of large squadrons and activation shenanigans.

12? I want to buy that Campaign set just for them...

So you're saying the Interdictor is a little, hard-to-handle?

Sounds like my kind of ship :P

Oh yea, and now we have blast doors that can help out any ship that can use them.

Ooo I'm interested. Entertain me please.

Just to clarify I meant "state" as in "condition" rather than a State in the US.

Condition = Excellent.

With the wave 5 expansions greatly expanding the squadron sub-game, we're in great shape for variety in builds across both Rebels and Imperials. The Arquitens breathes life into Imperial builds. Waves 3/4 were just lovely. The game is definitely coming into its prime. Let's hope it stays there for a while.

Oh. I'm aware what the title was asking.

, it flies better than a Victory, shoots lighter, but has all kinds of speed control shenanigans. This "double arcing" thing people keep talking about is apparently important to proper utilization.

Because it shoots just as hard as a Victory when its putting both a Front arc and a side arc on target.

Hence the statement.

Currently flotillas and squads were dominating the meta

Are they? I'm trying to get back into the "meta" of Armada and when I left, MSU (multiple small units as in multiple ships with no squadrons) was dominating (mainly Gladiators and Raiders maybe with a Vic or ISD)

The current outlook on Armada is heavily leaning on squadrons.

Is it just because there are more of them? Seriously, can you and CaribbeanNinja help me out and show me where this is the case?

It's fun and enjoyable if somewhat unbalanced in favor of large squadrons and activation shenanigans.

Okay, the game favoring squadrons because of certain upgrade cards and newer squadrons I can understand, but now it's "unbalanced in favor of large squadrons"? What touranments and events have these new shenanigans made appearances at and gone undefeated (or close to it) at?

Basically since MiniRanker stopped getting updates, I have *no idea* where to get info and insight into the meta for each wave and what's currently considered good in Armada (especially with the release now of Wave V). I just don't believe it at all since when I stopped playing it was widely considered useless to take anything other than MANY Imp ships and no squadrons.

Any input would be appreciated. Basically I'm asking the same question as OP lol.

MSU is still a thing, and flotillas are meaty, low-cost activations. I say meaty because they take some work to kill, needing at least one accuracy and 4 (or 5 for bright hope) damage, or a full activation of squadrons. Because flotillas are cheaper and great carriers, this frees up points for squadrons. Carrier builds are no longer severely out-activated. Add bomber command center that lets bombers reroll dice and Interdictor cards that make Yavaris more effective, and you have a squadron-friendly meta.

Not true, I've been a fan since release. Just don't play Imperials all that much, haha.

I don't know what a hamajor is, but it sounds delicious.

They do, just late at night in musty basements to the sounds of screams and chants in forgotten languages, and not with you.

I say you're wrong and a traitor! The Emperor delivered us from the terrorist Separatists and the power-mad Jedi. He deserves loyal citizens willing to support the legitimacy of his government and his leadership! Will you not honor the debt you owe him!?

Here is the first list to run to bring you up to speed on wave IV and some new objectives. Konstantine and interdictors are great fun.

Gink you've clearly had one to many at Christmas and forgotten your MC30s. I like the idea of the list though, it's sort of like mind control for armada.... It will be very annoying to play against....
