Breaking the hiatus: What have I missed?

By Lyraeus, in Star Wars: Armada

Thank you all who missed me and asked after me. I got my first game in as long as I have been away last night and it was fun. Gods I am rusty.

So who wants to catch me up on whats going on? Still Doom and Gloom? Any interesting rules discussions? How are people taking wave 5 other than the typical "Its new. . . I don't like it" or the "Its ugly and doesn't make sense with my perception of the universe" arguments?

As for my game last night.

Word of warning, I did had right out the list so I am pretty sure it is fine but it was last second so I could of been off in points. Don't think I was.

Mission: Sensor Net (I was second)

MC80 Command Cruiser:

Commander Sato

Home One (which was not really needed it turns out)

Flight Commander

Reinforced Blast Doors

Boosted Comms

Fighter Coordination Teams

Pelta Command

Phoenix Home

Flight Commander

Ahsoka Tano

Boosted Comms

Fighter Coordination Teams

All Formations Follow Me (I never used it but if I had on Turn 6 it would of been the right move!)

Gr-75 Transport

Toryn Farr

Bomber Command Center

Bright Hope

Squadrons:
Lancer

Green Squadron (WONDERFUL!)

Ten Numb (Decent ability but you want to REALLY mix it up with him)

Nora Wexly (BEST PILOT AWARD GOES HERE!)

Jan Orrs

2x YT-1300 (does so much work!)

VCX-100 (This, FCT and Sensor Net is stupid. . . Stupid GOOD!)

I won by 5 points but we did not really see fighting till T4. I lost my MC80 on T6. . . Rapid Reload worked wonders. . . I did forget that I used a Brace so I took the 10 damage when it should of been just 5. . . bleh. Typical me. Got excited things were happening and forget the one thing that saves me > .<

End result was me getting 10 tokens to his 3, killing his 88 point Demolisher which is 238 for me, and him killing Home One, the Lancer and a YT-1300 (the other would have died if I had it attack the Decimator it was engaged with but I decided against it. Good thing, it lived) so 233 for him.

He had 3 Defenders, 2 Decimator's, a Light Cruiser with TRC's and Blast Doors, Vader on an ISD 2, with XI7's and something else, Demo with Rapid Reload and Ordnance Experts (we both had not played in months and he is a FAR newer player than I am so he forgot Engine Techs).

He liked to draw me out so I hung back doing silly things with Strategic and a Token. I later learned from Dras that Fighter Coordination is indeed a move and satisfies Strategic. . . which. . . WOW! For a Slow moving Fleet I can steal that token almost every activation as long as I had a VCX (or 2) and Fighter Coordination Team.

Welcome back and Happy Holidays!

Domo.

Since you've been gone, Armada has been close to death at least seven times and FFG apparently ruined the game with more squadron content. I think that about catches you up...

Wait. . . before I left, there was was not ENOUGH squadrons :P

Eh mate, bloody glad to see ya back with us.

As for taking the temperature, it's a bit early but there's a lot of talk about some 'stranger things lurking in the dark'. IE, a little doom and gloom but for the most part it's been people barking about Rogue One and the CC-enhanced squadron game. There's a lot of talk about squadrons from all corners given the massive surge in elite pilots and the new vet-squadrons. The VT-49's seem to have been getting a lot of attention, as have the dakka-dakka nature of the Z-95 and Wexley only got widely spoiled about a week back and since then has been an all-star Rebel talking point. Oh yeah, and the gloom has been from 'why come skwadronz?! Dis game bout ship, not X-wing?! Y U so meen 2 uz FFG?!'

The info and ramifications are still being digested, but basically you're on the same page as a lot of us without the massive exposure to how scary some of the squadrons seem. As for me, well, I'm jealous of anyone with a Peltas as they were right sold out when I made it to the store by noon.

-Post scriptum: seriously, good to see you back, Ly-ly, mate!

Welcome back Lyr

I actually stumbled across your YouTube channel prior to joining the forums here. Hope to see some new content up as you settle in to your return. Welcome back.

Since you've been gone, Armada has been close to death at least seven times and FFG apparently ruined the game with more squadron content. I think that about catches you up...

And then there were the conga lines, and Ackbar, and Rhymer death-clouds, and the ever present Demolisher fear, and...etc. etc.

In short human nature as usual. Opinions, as always, remain divisive things that veer in multiple diverse tangents.

The wise enjoy the game in their own way, for their own reasons, and trouble themselves not with the prejudices of others.

And, if necessary, wield your lightsaber to strike down any who are too obnoxious to be spared.

i dont get why people claim FFG adding squadron content was messing the game up.

StarWars has always been about the fighters. Fighters cant do long range missions or haul things, more often than not the true damage is done by a fighter getting between armor plates on a ship and causing havoc. Capital ships support the fighters and bring the BIG guns to bear when its needed...rarely.

Im loving Armada right now. I stopped right after Wave2 only because in this area it was just me and one of my friends, and we got tired of facing each other lol. The Campaign actually spiked a heavy interest, so now were trying to get an Armada day going much like we have for Xwing.

The more i play this game the more i realize this game is not a deathmatch, in fact its quite possible to win without taking out any ships depending on the mission. Squadrons die in droves though lol

Shhh, he just came back.

Welcome back! Looking forward to seeing how you put together the new toys in an unexpected way.

Nobody is complaining about squadrons being added, but some of us are concerned that they are a little over-represented and overpowered. I think there are better threads to discuss it in, such as this one (ignore the clickbait title).

Good to hear from you!

The MC30's have been doing well since you left. Gink, Caldias, and I have been carrying the torch, and JJ won Worlds with Admonition and a shitload of Y-wings.

We've found a flaw in the Death Star Plans forum censor software.

Welcome back.... salt. Lots of salt. Kind of tired of it. But.

Happy holidays n such.

welcome back Lyraeus

Armada died, came back, gave us a news drought, squadrons got buffed, ship attacking squads got buffed, squads attacking ships got buffed, squad command got buffed with Relay, nav objectives got buffed by Strategic, at least one person replying to this thread has typed their message while in the buff, and there is a campaign expansion.

Good to see you back. Just played my first game in 3 months too. Let me be the first to say that I already love the Arquitens Light Cruiser. Had a ship that could actually trade fire and keep up to my opponents Assault Frigates. He was not pleased lol.

I'm sensing a trend here...

Lyraeus sighting! The world can now return to how it should be.

Welcome back!

It is so good to hear that you are back Lyraeus! It is such a great time to be back too! The Conflict campaign will perhaps bring many more into Armada, and NOONE has figured out Wave 5 yet.

I'm looking forward to your energy on the forums. There are a few that seem to predict doom and gloom but for the most part the community is still as great and qwerky as ever.

Welcome back my friend.

As for news, Rebels took a major boost, squadrons now rule the game, Imperials are at a disadvantage, and I am grumpy about it all.

That is before CC and wave 5. I think CC and wave V will fix some of this. I hope.

Yup. Everyone's scrambling to figure out what all the new releases mean for the game.

Perfect time to return!

(You didn't happen to have some students who turned against you but then some girl showed up and gave you your old maneuver tool, did you?)

Huh. Neat!

I feel like the censorship is worse than just leaving it uncensored. Every time I see asterisks I just mentally fill in the vilest filth I can come up with.
