Please make it, Carrie

My condolences to family and friends. I was so glad to see her in the new movies. Throughout her life she was always underrated, and finally she got the chance to show her talent. What a loss for all of us that we won't see more of her.

We stil have episode 8 to look forward to.
And maybe even a CG version for Episode IX...

No... just no.

They did a fair job with Tarkin in Rogue One, so it's not entirely unreasonable that they'll do it again.

I don't know what to say. Just when I think 2016 can't get any worse, it does.

Watching her in 1983 was the first time I realised I could feel for girls the same way as guys.

Thank you for that. And everything else. Rest in peace :(

I'm content with 8.

Jesus christ guys, she hasn't even cooled off and your talking about putting her in C.G.I? Wow. I've honestly not got much to say other then mild disappointment.

I can't say I was hugely surprised with the outcome after George Mikeal passed away, but it really is the end of an era.

We all mourn in our own ways. I'm very interested in the outcome of all of this and its impact on the upcoming films, and I can say that I unreservedly adored Fisher and her life (and in particular her work towards improving awareness of mental health issues). I'd say she would not be very interested in reverent silence, but in laughter and lively conversation.

Heartbroken...

I end up doing end of life care frequently, and I'm pushed to finish it up and have the rooms ready for the next patient within 1 hour, so waiting for the body to cool isn't really an option I'm used to having.

Well you have it now.

“Carrie and I have been friends most of our adult lives. She was extremely smart; a talented actress, writer and comedienne with a very colorful personality that everyone loved. In Star Wars she was our great and powerful princess – feisty, wise and full of hope in a role that was more difficult than most people might think. My heart and prayers are with Billie, Debbie and all Carrie’s family, friends and fans. She will be missed by all.” – George Lucas

She will always be our princess.

And our General.

My wife had 5 crushes growing up. One killed himself 10 years ago.

She's lost 3 this year. Alan Rickman, George Michael and now Carrie Fisher. I don't know what she will do if she loses Cyndi Lauper.

Horrible year.

Settledown. There is nothing wrong with talk of extending her legacy at a time like this. CGI would honor her memory and is not disrespectful.

Wait, wait - back the train up. George Michael died?

Wow, Last Christmas indeed.

Telling people to "settledown" for voicing a completely understandable reaction now that is just rude.

Guys, let's not do this, yeah?

Guys, let's not do this, yeah?

Agreed.

Let's keep it positive and respectful.

I really was scared all week that this might happen but I thought that she would be strong enough to pull through.

She was the first girl toy I ever bought and I was smitten with her when I was 7 or 8.

I was 6.

I was five; do I hear four?

I have a right to express an opinion and in my opinion it is disrespectful to say "oh no she has died, I wonder if we should use CGI to replace her?" within 24 hours of a passing. I am perfectly calm in stating that I am quite disgusted with that way of thinking; it was like when MJ died that there is a time and place to discuss that. Telling me to settle down is disrespectful to my opinion, I don't appreciate that.

Of course since that already being addressed I assume that no ill was meant. ^ _ ^ Just I had felt strongly about it at the time.

We all mourn in our own ways...

Mourning? In all likelihood, none of us knew Fisher personally or counted her among our family or friends. I'm a life-long Star Wars fan and Fisher was a prominent figure in the franchise, but I don't revere or adore any member of the cast. In fact, I can say that about every single celebrity on the planet. I don't count any celebrities among my kith or kin, nor do I ken the cultic reverence our culture bestows upon them. Celebrities are strangers with familiar faces whose work product I sometimes enjoy. I knew Princess Leia far better than I knew Carrie Fisher. What I knew of Fisher outside her work never spoke to me. It would be disingenuous for me to interlope into her family's genuine mourning to glom a dollop of reflected grief for myself. I feel the mild regret I feel when I learn of any stranger's death. It amounts to wistful nostalgia. Her family has my condolences for their deep personal loss. I find mourning a stranger, famous or no, both odd and unseemly. Most of her fans knew her only through her work product. As a result, their immediate reaction to her death will revolve around just that: her work.

Regardless of whether anyone knows someone else, feels the same way at a stranger's passing, holds life and death in the same regard, or agrees with someone else's expression of grief, I wouldn't think simply being mindful of other's feelings in regards to things we say would require more than a pulse and an IQ bigger than our shoe size.

You are well within your rights to say whatever you want in whatever manner you choose. Whether doing so proves effective, however, is another matter. Personally, the reason I said I was "content with 8" is that I think using CGI to shoehorn a recently deceased celebrity into a film would be declasse. I would strongly prefer not to see a CGI Leia in episode 9. I would prefer the writer's respect her death and adapt. However, after an eighteen month election-cycle bombardment of ridiculous rhetorical overreach that lost all perspective and proportion, some of us don't have much patience, or respect, left for knee-jerk expressions of outrage. Especially when so many seem outraged over so much. You felt it was disrespectful for people to speculate about it. I understand that and don't disagree with you. But we only knew her work. Many will immediately speculate about it.

Left-handed insults do not render you noble. Nor do they impress.
