I know this is offtopic, but I fell in love with Carrie Fisher in 1977.
Keep fighting, Princess. You are our only hope.

Last update I saw (time stamped at 9:15pm last night) is that she's in stable condition, but still in the ICU.
So no immediate danger, but she's not completely in the clear either.
Goddammit. And we were almost free and clear of 2016...

It's been a horrid year, hasn't it?

Unfortunately, a later story had her brother saying he doesn't know who quoted him as saying that...that her condition had not been officially upgraded.
What a horrible, horrible year
May the Force be with her.
Tough time of year for her family. Nice to have the whole world pullin for ya though...
May the Force be with her. All the fans already are.
I'd be willing to bet that she's being kept in the ICU not only for observation, but also to ensure that she's left alone and not pestered by reporters or non-family visitors so that she can recuperate in peace.

She's probably in the ICU because she needs to be there. Odds are she was put into a medically induced coma and is being kept in a hypothermic state for roughly 48 hours in order to help minimize any brain damage caused by lack of oxygen and swelling. At the end of that 48 hour period they'll try to wake her up and see how she is. In cases like this the medical professionals won't know how much damage was done until they attempt to wake her up. That's probably the reason why there have been no reports stating that she's aware and responsive.
Hopefully she'll be alright but if she was without oxygen, as some reports have said, for a significant amount of time she may have suffered fairly extensive brain damage and may never be the same even if she pulls through. It's tragic that this incident happened 15 minutes before her plane landed and not after. Imediate medical care is vital with these kinds of incidents. If she pulls through, without major issues, she really owes those medical pros that were on the plane with her.
May the force be with you, Carrie.

I don't mean to be a downer but stable doesn't mean much other than the fact that her body is no longer actively trying to die. It doesn't mean she's going to fully recover or that she's entirely out of danger. I hope she recovers fully and lives a happy life for the coming decades, but we're going to have to wait and see.

That's not how it works. If she needs privacy, it can be provided at just about any level of care. It's better to put her on the right level and request extra help from hospital security rather than trying to get unnecessarily upgraded to a higher level of care just to maintain privacy. Depending on the hospital in question, they sometimes have secured/private wards for celebrities, but I don't know if this is the case here. Regardless, if she's in ICU it's because that's the level of care she requires.
Oh dear! Hope she makes it through and a full recovery. May the force be with her.
I'm stunned. She didn't pull through.

Of all the 2016 celebrity deaths, this one honestly hits me the hardest.
Oh no...
I'm honestly speechless. I don't know what to say...
… I simply don't have the words to express what my heart is yearning to say.
She will always be our princess.
Her poor mom. I can't even imagine having to bury one of my kids.
My condolences to family and friends. I was so glad to see her in the new movies. Throughout her life she was always underrated, and finally she got the chance to show her talent. What a loss for all of us that we won't see more of her.

I don't envy the person who has to rework episode 8 and 9. Depending on how integral her character is in the overall plot and where they leave her off in episode 8 they may need to do significant rewrites and re-shoots. Obviously, that's the least of anyone's concerns right now, but yeah, just so sad.
