RebelDaves Next Project.. Will be……..

By RebelDave, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

I actually don't know.

What do y'all want?

You see, I am reaching the end of doable Vehicle cards, and have a process in hand that allows me to churn out new cards pretty quickly now I have a good template (And don’t worry, there are more to come).

Plus, now that No Safe Haven is finished (Go check it out over at RPG.buzz), there may be a large gap between that and the next BIG THING that’s in the pipeline. And I like to have something to work on to keep my broken mind occupied, since I don’t have a group to play Star Wars with.

Now… I've got a few ideas, detailed below, but quite frankly, I am not sure how much use they would be, and if no one is going to use them, then I feel my efforts would be better focused on something people need/want/could use etc.

Now, the few ideas I do have are:

Operational Costs - Redo/update/revamp my old supplement (For which some collaboration, suggestions, etc. would be appreciated) since it seems to have cropped up again recently, and my quality was NOT as per my current standards, so it could use some serious polishing.

Starship Action/Manoeuvre cards - kind of an expansion to my Vehicle Cards, basically a set of playing cards with each Man/Action in the books on them, for quick reference/ease of summary etc. (I've started these, but formatting is proving difficult, and not sure it's worth it if no one would use them)

Summary Sheets - Basically redoing some old QR Sheets I have to a more, refined style (less clunky, less blocky)… but I am not a graphic artist, so there may not be much I can do there.

NPC Combat Tracker Sheet - A page that lets you track a multitude of NPCs and their associated data during a combat. (This one is very much down to how you run your games), but for this I would be interested in what people would want on the sheet. I could potentially make a fair few different ones to suit various needs.

More NPC Cards - Basically more cards, as close in style to FFGs, covering NPCs they have not done (Dependant on Artwork, which could be VERY limiting).

Advantage/Threat cards - Playing cards with the books suggestions for spending Adv/Threat, so you can give them to the relevant player when they are triggered so they remember what they have, and how to use it? (Probably not useful for seasoned groups who know the rules - I know my group probably wouldn’t have used them when they were green)

Something else? Something I've not thought of? Something YOU would want to see, that I am capable of producing.

I cannot create artwork, so I am limited to using images and art that’s already out there.

I am no good at writing adventures, but I can lay them out and make them look 'proper' to FFG standards (don't take OpCosts as a standard, my standards have improved Leaps and Bounds since then).

I am happy to collaborate on projects, if my abilities fall into the right area (Layout mostly), so if my services can be used by anyone, let me know. (Keep in mind, I don’t work to any particular timetables, because I am unable to)

Would converting existing WEG adventures to FFG style be any use to anyone? (I don’t personally think so, as its easy to use an NPC or Vehicle card and knowledge of the system to convert on the fly, or prior to running an adventure with little effort).

TL:DR

Basically, I want to contribute to the community, since I don’t get to play or GM, so I want to put my efforts into something, anything, that you lovely lot might find useful or interesting :) .

So…. Wha'd'ya got for this Wookiee?

Vehicle operational costs would be great, especially if it included a decent way to handle vehicle encumberance. I personally enjoy the heck out of the maintenance crit chart, though I haven't yet brought it to my players. I'm thinking I might do so soon and see if they're interested in expanding the craziness that can happen with the vehicles they own. Obviously it wouldn't be rules that would help their characters keep their money but it could make for some really good narrative situations and it could also give the mechanics of the groups more to do.

OK.

Well, since it cropped up again in another thread, and I looked at my original work.... I was dismayed to find the layout was far from my current standard (Developed during the No Safe Haven work), and the spelling. grammer, (general writing) was... well.... not very good.

So, if anyone wants to jump in and help with editorial/editing and improving on the writing, and expanding/streamlining the current text.. I would really appreciate it, since that area is not really my forte.

Would converting existing WEG adventures to FFG style be any use to anyone? (I don’t personally think so, as its easy to use an NPC or Vehicle card and knowledge of the system to convert on the fly, or prior to running an adventure with little effort).

I know that Kayla has already converted some WEG module on the AoR forum, but she is having time issues that have slowed her down considerably. Maybe you could help her and convert some of the modules she hasn't done yet?

I second what Lareg said. I also find a ton of value in module conversions... particularly when the little things are done right (for example, putting together advantage and threat tables for checks that will crop up during a particular scene, etc.).

If that's something of interest, there are a number of modules that I'd recommend!

I would need alot of editorial help converting WEG, as I think typing up all the text would be the end of me.

Personally, given this system, I dont see why a WEG adventure cant be run 'on the fly' using NPC cards and such, so I've never seen much need to convert them myself, I only put that in as a bottom of the barrell option.

I also need any project to grab my attention, becuase if it doesnt, I wouldnt feel much motivation to get on with it.

That said, if someone did type up the adventure so I can C&P it it into and FFG style layout, then it wouldnt be a huge job to do layout.

I'd love to see either an operation costs update or more npc cards personally.

The only issue with NPC cards, is finding suitable artwork.

Now if people want to do that bit for me (Corret style, quality, etc), then I am more than happy to make them. They wont take long :)

I'd like to see you revisit Operational Costs , personally. It's a pretty good resource as is, if you think it can be improved upon I'd love to see it. I'm not sure how much I can contribute in the way of playtesting or content, but I'd be happy to proofread and offer suggestions.

OK, that makes you two, and Groggy Golem who want me to revisit OpCosts.

Drop me a PM, and we can swap email, and start discussing what can be done :)

Sent!

I'd be interested to see an update on Operational Costs as well! I've been using the original version for my game & I like the way it's made my players think about the running of their ship & considering that she needs constant attention... Brings "The Echo Rising" to life that bit more :)

I get the feeling the concensus is for OpCosts V2.

Now, this probably wont be a huge project, the original was only 14 pages along, including Cover and Tracking sheet....

A couple of messaged me to offer their assistance, and as soon as I have contact details, we can make a start.

If anyone else has any suggestions on things to add, or tweak, or change, please feel free to send them over, or join in, full credit will be given to all who contribute :)

I can do copyediting/QA on whatever you decide to work on.

However, if someone else wants to step up and also participate in that process, it would be great to have a second pair of eyes on these things!

I'd be more than happy to proofread anything as well :)

These have my vote

I like more NPC cards.

Yeah...I don't ask for much. LOL

Would Operation Costs v2 include paying crew members? My group passed on a Corvette sized vessel, and took the base option offered instead, because they were unsure if they would be able to afford paying others.

Personally, it would be hard to come up with anything solid on paying others, and so many factors would come into play.

Who are you hiring?

What skills do they have?

How desperate are they for work?

What circumstances are they in that demands they find work?

The going rate for work, where they are from?

Are they wanted?

Are they qualified?

What are the results of negotiation between you and them? (What levels of skills do you both have?)

How many other, similarly qualified persons are also available?

Are you in a Core world, or the Outerrim?

Are you hiring for legal work, or illegal purposes?

What is the financial level of your game? does 5 credits feed you for a day? or 20?

There are so many variables in play here, that it would be hard to give anything but the vaguest guidelines.
