New-found upgrade utility in CC campaign

By GammonLord, in Star Wars: Armada

Have been designing first lists for CC and started reconsidering the use of certain cards in the campaign context. As an example, am thinking repairs crews on a flotilla could make all the difference between a functioning costly big ship and a scarred/ destroyed one.

Thoughts/ suggestions on other cards that may come back into use?

Been thinking about that too. Instead of a suicidal attack run with that "expendable" ship you may choose to save it. So defensive upgrades very well make a comeback. Engineering Teams may see some time on the table. Still wonder how good Projection Experts would be in this environment.

I'll need to see how the economy works.

Most ships seem pretty cheap to just fix after being scarred. The Demo costs 28 points, for example, and you get 30 free points before dipping into your resources.

I do think Reikeen may not be the best Admiral for a campaign. Kamikaze tactics look to be expensive.

Well, to take the Imperials, for example....

They start with 4 Bases.

So, end of the First Campaign Turn (assuming they kept all of their Bases)

Bases give you 25pts, and then the amount for the System that they're on... That averages around 15.

So there's 160 Points.

That 160 is divided equally between the 3 Players... So assume your Grand Admiral hates you and you get 53 Points.

So, you have 30 "Refit" points, and 53 "Resource" Points, with which to spend.

*EVERYTHING* That was Destroyed (Unique or not) ends up scarred, and you need to pay Half its Basic Points to Repair. (Ignore upgrades)...

That includes Every Goddamn Squadron, for example.

PLUS, on top of that, you might be wanting to spend 15 of those "Resource" Points to try to build a new Base.

So actually saving up to add something big.... Will take some time.

....

Additionally, your "Refit" points disappear if unspent, and "Refit" points cannot be spent on buying New Stuff. Only Fixing.

"Resource" points Carry over if unspent, and are your primary currency.

It's always safe to assume the Grand Admiral hates me. :)

I'll need to see the economy in action before I can decide if there will be lots of free points (you can only buy so many bases till it's all full) or if players will always be strapped for points.

With the ability to strip upgrade cards off of scarred ships before battle (move them to other ships or just keep them in the garage) - combined with the ability to hyperspace out if too damaged - the losses shouldn't be too great.

This is all theory, of course. Until I'm knee-deep in burning ships and the lamentations of the Corellians - I won't know for sure. :)

There are definite limits to the bases... I think for the Empire is ((2x Empire Players) +1 ).

And of course, there are some places given +5 Points bonus. There are some places that sacrifice a chunk of resources to give you other benefits, etc, etc, etc.

Yes. It sounds like imperial players will be able to build one additional base each.

Rebels have a few more options with Outposts.

I, for one, will be looking to grab locations with interesting terrain. The Asteroid and Nebula objectives look fantastic for the defender!

So how many pages are there in the new rules for CC? Will I be lost without my own copy or can the rules be explained easily in a sit down session with my team?

Its explainable.

Setup seems complex, but its only becuase its specifically defining what is known information between teams, and what is hidden information...

So, it seems silly to say - but pay attention - becuase the Rebels are given license to be tricky (but not cheat)...

? Don't you have to pay for the cost of the upgrades, too? Well, half the cost?

Nope.

You pay for Upgrades when you Buy them.

When you are Refitting a Ship, its half the Fleet Cost of the Ship, without Upgrades.

Like Dras mentioned paying half points for each squadron you lose if going to be a big pain. Higher hull squads will be very valuable, possibly YV-666s as well as the new squadrons.

The most interesting concept is IMO that you don't have to use all the upgrade cards on your list. You can stack them away and use them later. So if you're on a suicide run for example you can send in your fleet "naked", with no upgrade cards. Or you can stack in several builds for the same ship and change the build according to the battle you're going to fight. That's awesome!
