Rebel Commanders: whos good for what?

Aight im a newbie to Armada. Quite versed in Xwing but that kinda doesnt mean anything. I played Armada for several months on release but getting back into the game apparently i didnt do anything right lol.

Ive read the rules more indepth, read the faq, looked at some lists online, so i think i got a far better understanding of the game. Except commanders.

The commanders..for both sides really but more specifically Rebels..i just dont see why you'd take majority of them. Akbar is obviously the best for high-ship count lists long as you arent using the Liberty since its clearly a frontal ship not a broadsider. But besides Akbar...the only other commander i see as useful is General Rieekan.

Im not that dumb though. Both because im not all that amazing at this game yet and ive been surprised in every tabletop game by something i thought was lousy kicking my butt. The other commanders have to have valid reasons to exist for their costs and im just not seeing them.

So, besides Akbar and Rieekan, what are some good uses for rebel commanders? i find myself preferring squadron heavy lists, which is why i tend to use Rieekan.

Ackbar , broadsides

Rieekan, squad aces

Cracken, small nimbles ship spam, mainly trc cr90a

Dodonna, general plus generic squadrons

Mothma, brawling close range mc30s and cr90s

Garm, flexibility. Most common with assault frigates

Dodonna is very good if you build your list right. Rebels have multiple effects that let you bypass shields to deal face-up damage cards, and he works great with bombers as well, which Rebels happen to love.

Madine is really good with MC30s and Libertys. It let's your MC30s double-arc more easily, which is devastating, and with Madine, the Liberty can do some pretty insane flying to keep that monster front arc where you want it.

Garm is almost unused in my meta, but there are Wave 5 cards like Ahsoka Tano(Sp?) who make having tokens much better. HE gives you a very flexible fleet.

Cracken and Mothma do a lot to up the survivability of your smaller, more delicate ships.

Mothma, honestly the only reason i discounted her is because im in a "BIG SHIP MUST USE BIG SHIP" mindset atm (40k player in me....must...use..big...effin..models...*glances at Ta'unar on the shelf*). Neither the large ships really get anything from her, or squadrons, so she doesnt fit into what ive been trying to do at all. Probably should have mentioned i saw a use for her but i think Akbar would still be better unless you really wanna use MC30s.

How does Dodonna work with bombers? His card says "friendly ship is attacking" which would negate bombers since theyre a squadron. If he worked with bombers i'd probably auto-include him since i seem to have uncanny luck with my xwings...lol
