Glaive Curse

By Teloch, in X-Wing Squad Lists

So, a list I want to try.

What do you guys think?

Glaive + TIE/D + CS + TB + SD

Glaive + TIE/D + CS + TB + SD

Dark Curse + SD

97 points

all PS 6 so I get to pick my activation order, the Glaives get to TB then normal attack, then Dark Curse plus SD with an evade is nigh on invincible 1v1 and if the 2 tracor beams from the glaives hit his 2 attack should be more beneficial.

Personally, I would replace one of the glaive's tractor beam with an ion cannon. I don't like stacking tractor beams as the boost/barrel roll effect only can happen once. Maybe you could use the other remaining point to make the tractor beam defender Vessery? It leaves no initiative bid but you get a more reliable tractor beam which in turn makes all your subsequent attacks more powerful

Absolutely agree that since you have a 3 point bid already you may as well upgrade one of the Glaive's to Vessery.

I'm also not sure about Stealth device on the Glaives - going from 3 to 4 greens is OK - but stealth device is more cost effective when you have focus + evade. Say you take focus as an action most turns, you are either going to shoot first and probably spend it on offense, in which case you will have unmodified greens and SD will likely pop, or you will shoot second and maybe have to spend the focus on defence at which point you lose punching power with the D's. I'd say hull upgrade would be better if you want to go down that route.

I'd also be tempted to use those points to upgrade Dark Curse to the classic Juke/Comms relay sensor cluster Omega Leader - who has a much better ability and is probably just as survivable with the extra shield and evade token if worst comes to worst.

Cool list. As others have said, SD might not be the best on the Glaives, maybe a hull upgrade instead. Also, Ion Cannon could work. I still like the idea of having two tractor beams, and then having a 3-die primary shot.

Here's another idea:

Vessery (35)

- Tractor Beam (1)

- TIE/D (0)

- Ruthlessness (3)

- Hull Upgrade (3)

Glaive Squadron Pilot (34)

- Ion Cannon (3)

- TIE/D (0)

- Crack Shot (1)

- Hull Upgrade (3)

"Wampa" (14)

- Targeting Computer (2)

Total 99

Ruthless Vessery is an absolute monster, particularly when packing a tractor beam. You could change the Glaive to TB + Ruthlessness too, but then you run a serious risk of damaging your own ships; plus the ion cannon is good for control. Hull upgrades keep both of them alive. I went with Wampa instead of Dark Curse because Vessery really wants wingmates who can target lock, and Wampa + Computer is a big enough threat on his own to possibly draw some fire from the defenders (as opposed to Dark Curse, who is a pain to kill but can be safely ignored until the defenders are dead).

I played something similar to this earlier this week, it was Vess and Rexler Brath with ion cannons and a academy blocker. Both the defenders had expertise which meant they could modify both cannon and primary attack, and keep the focus for defense. It was quite scary against my rebel list
