The Imperial Dilemma, lack of double brace defense tokens.

By Marinealver, in Star Wars: Armada

Okay but yeah this makes Imperial's a little more squishy than rebels. Granted the Rebels don't have the double contain that Imperials do but still I think Imps could benefit from having a ship that can get double contain. So here are some proposals.

  • Back-up Shield Generators. Defensive Retrofit. Restricted Replace one of your Redirect token with a Brace Token. 8 points

This would give the ISD II and Aquintins the double brace tokens to make them a little more durable. For the Rebels this also gives brace to MC-30s and CR-90s the option to trade in their redirect with a brace. A fairly good trade for 8 points. I made sure it doesn't give a 3rd brace token to any rebel ship.

Not to leave the Rebels in the dark. An upgrade for them.

  • Damage Control Team: Support Team, Replace one of your brace tokens with a Contain token 6 points

MC-80s Neb bandthe Pelta can gain a contain. On the Imperial side this gives the GSD access to the contain defense. Might have to FAQ so you can't chain a a redirect to brace to contain with back up shield generator damage control team. Although that might get a little expensive if a player decided to do that.

Questions comments?

Mc80 Endeavor can add a contain token at the moment.

Importantly no rebels with double braces have access to a defensive slot. All imperials can have one due to Minister Tua. Not to mention Mottis bonus if you fancy more hull. An ISD with 2 braces, 14 hull and ECM would be almost game breaking even if you charged 20 points for the change in defence tokens.

I don't really see this as a problem. Imperial ships tend to have higher hull values which generally are superior to higher shield values. Neither the Nebulon-B nor the LMC80 have defensive retrofit slots (as Mad Cat noted) and the Nebulon-B has no Redirects and the LMC80 has a lowly one, which is fairly easily handled with Intel Officer or Accuracy. Plus you've also got Motti and Tagge (when used with ECMs, anyways) who are swell at extending the lives of your larger ships. Rebels don't really have a commander that's dedicated to improving the durability of their larger ships as much.

I don't think you and I are playing the same game if you think Imperials are squishy compared to Rebels

I have never been shooting at a Motti ISD and thought it needed to be tougher. The ISD strikes a really good balance of power, toughness, and cost. You pay top dollar for the premiere ****-kicker, and I don't feel like it needs any tweaking.

My problem as a Rebel player is that my fleet is too squishy. If I mess up even just a little, most of my ships are obliterated by a VSD gunnery team or something like a triple tap Demolisher that has the hull points to ram, whereas it takes many many shots and bombing runs to take down most imperial ships I face.

I needed a good laugh this morning :D

I mean they are not very hard targets. Sure there is a lot of hullin there but the shields go down pretty fast and then they are vulnerable to crits and large volleys. When I think of hard targets I think of lots of damage mitigation. Squishy is very little damage mitigation. They could have lots of hit points after that but no armor so a thousand cuts will leave a big gash.

The Imperials:

"The Best Form of Damage Mitigation is to use ALL OF THE DICE FIXING WE HAVE TO DESTROY THE ENEMY FIRST."

I was always under the impression that Beating your opponent into submission with floods of modified black dice WAS the Imperial way.........

Wait, wait. I am exclusively an Imperial player. and I just watched an after action report codenamed "Rogue One" and saw Two Imperial Star Destroyers get wreaked with little effort from the terrorist fleet.

I think you will find dice fixing is a criminal act... 10 years hard labor......

Also, don't put your capital ships so close to each other when their weapon ranges are so huge. You can stil provide covering fire for eacg other while staying well outside ramming range.

Look, you can set up anything else you want...

But if your metaphorical pants are down around your ankles when you need to start running... You still have a problem.
