IDing Unique Squadrons

By IceQube MkII, in Star Wars: Armada

So I got my CC box and was assembling the squadrons (I'm a horrid painter so maybe Dras is gonna get serious business from me)...

1 - Do you guys recognize the symbols for the keywords on the chits?

2 - Do you guys recognize the artwork between pilots? (e.g., Jonus and Rhymer look the same... Mauler and the other guy)

3 - I really thought the unique squadrons would have a dot next to their silhouette... as it stands, I believe the cardboard chit for the unique-Y looks the same as a normal Y.

4 - I think I might have to start using spare ship numbers so it's easier for my opponents to tell who is who.

Bottom Line... please go squadronless against me if we ever play... my color-blindness and poor vision from my advanced age needs your help! LOL

Seriously though, aces battles, while assuredly fun, there's gonna be a lot to track and agree with other sentiments that this might add time to games.

You make a good point. Little cardboard counters with the aces names would be helpful. I think it may finally be time for me to start painting my squadrons.

...

I've not had any problems with Base-toppers so far.

But, yeah... I can't really complain about a problem where I built a business around providing a solution... >.>

I think I'm gonna try to make stickers to attach to the base so people can see.

Yeah, I'm actually a little surprised and vaguely irritated that the CC 'vet' squadrons don't have a good indicator icon aside from the symbols themselves. I was hoping for some sort of symbol, medal, something to tell them apart, but right now I'm staring at them in the box and wondering how I'm going to keep those sorted for the time being. Maybe I'll have to nab some more bases.

Keeping them differentiated with the models on them is simple (painting is wonderful, especially when it's patterns rather than just colours), but just staring at the disks with a few squadrons.... this might be the time to start marking up the uniques with the 'squadron chit' markers with a bit of highlighter on 'em for non uniques. Possibly time for someone to 3D print some name plates?

You could colour the rim of the disc to make special squadrons stand out.

Get painting...

I've been contemplating doing this for each faction, actually.

I don't think this is really any different than taking different upgrades on the same ship type. Just put the number markers on the squadron and say okay, number 1 is blue blue Y-Wing. Just make sure the ID tokens are on the card and clear on the model and I see any problem.

When I first saw this post, I did not really understand the issue, last night we started switching the cardboard last night on some of the squadrons and realized it is hard to differentiate between the regular squadrons.

So, part of my weekend plan is to paint the unique squadrons, I like the base idea for coloring, that is a good idea.

Quick solution, pick up the metallic sharpie set of three. Gold, silver & bronze. Add a little dot to the disk, or hit the entire rim of the disk for those with failing eyes.

Boom done...

Then paint them so you know each one on site.
