Another HotR title/Kanan questions

By Thalasarian, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Okay, I understand more or less the sequence in how this is going to work, but I have a small extra question.

If the Falcon is stressed initially, could I do the 3 maneuver and use Kanan to wipe the stress and then flip my ship with the title and then gain another stress? So, I would still have a stress on my ship after the maneuver like I would had I done a K-turn but would still allow me to perform the flip even if I had a stress on my ship initially?

This came up the other day during a game, but I didn't argue it (they said I couldn't do it) because I didn't want to argue it at a friendly game.

Thoughts?

Yes. Both activate on the same trigger so you can choose which order they do so.

I don't think it you should ever just accept something because you don't want to argue the point. You don't have to cry BS, but you can ask them "why not?"

If you're confident on your position, state your case clearly and concisely with a step by step explanation if need be, and make sure your argument is backed up by the rules and not assumptions. Ask the opponent to explain how your explanation is wrong, and explain how they might be correct. And make sure that their explanation is also backed up by the rules. Sometimes you'll reach an impasse where both sides of the argument make some sense. If that happens suggest rolling a die to decide.

This game is very linear in it's processes. You can only do one thing at a time, and some elements can change things dramatically when used in a different order. Try sitting at your table at home and work through each ship and upgrade on your list. Move a ship, check for any upgrade triggers, perform an action, check for any upgrade triggers, declare an attack, check for any upgrade triggers, during each step of an attack check for any upgrade triggers, etc. If you do this a few times, things will become second nature and the processes will logically fall into place each time you play. I've found it helpful to "announce" each step as you do it (even if it's to yourself). This "walk-through, talk-through" technique works and will help you learn not only your list, but the rules in general.

Example: Flip your YT-1300 dial - "I'm doing a white 3-bank" - move the ship - "... which triggers Kanan and the MF title at the same time, so I'll resolve the title first..." - flip the ship 180 - "... and receive the stress token. Now I'll resolve Kanan and remove that stress token."

At this point the opponent claims you can't do that. To which you reply "Kanan and the MF title share the same timing: 'after executing a maneuver' so I get to choose the order. What's wrong?"

His possible responses could be:

1. You can't perform a red manoeuvre while stressed. You didn't. Gaining a stress token didn't change the manoeuvre.

2. You can't trigger Kanan when you don't have a stress token. You can, because he triggers 'after the manoeuvre' and removes the stress when resolved.

3. You can't perform an action when stressed (claiming Kanan is an action). You didn't, because Kanan is not an action.

You need to be prepared for each argument he presents and have the correct logical answer for it. And this will come with experience. But never, NEVER accept the other guy's stance if it just doesn't sound right. Not without an explanation at the very least.
