Biggest X-Wing Game Ever?

By Hepitude, in X-Wing

What's the biggest game you've played? This could either be in terms of total points or points under your command. I've only ever played up to 600 points spread across three players.

1200 pt epic, 600/side.

Team Epic (2v2, 400 per side) is as big as I've gone.

I've heard of people attempting insane stuff like 1,000 points per side, but those matches tend to never actually finish because it just takes so long to execute each round.

A few months back I had an urge to try and use all/a good chunk of my collection in one fight. Ended up with a 3000 point Imperial vs Rebel game (1250 per side with optional 500 point scum drop-in after turn 2 or 3). I couldn't convince any friends to play so ended up playing it solo and scrapped the scum dropping in, so turned out to be 2500 points.

Took me most of a weekend to finish 3 turns, called the game Sunday night with ~400-500 points left per side. Would never advise playing solo epic games, more tiring than fun, in my opinion.

300 v 300 is as large as I've gone. It's difficult to find a suitable play space for anything larger than that. It CAN be done if both players are tight-formation-flyers. but really, 600 points fills out a 6' x 3' mat perfectly.

I can't ever stomach a game longer than a couple hours, so largest I've ever done is 120 pt.

Rebs V Imps epic, 600pts per side, 2V2, min 1 epic ship per side, 12 asteroids on 6x3 surface. It takes a long time so both teams work out their squads in the week leading up to the game. Rock up on the day prepared and round 1 starts 30-45mins later. Takes all day but we all get really efficient at moving same skill pilots that don't have to wait to see what the others are doing. I enjoy epic probably more than 100 V 100. Perhaps because I lay it less.

I think in this case we played 2 epic ships per team.

...and the game still isnt over :P

4 players with 100 points each.

Trying to introduce X wing to My school, i had 18 players (mostly around 11 years old) with one ship each, crowded around a double length board, none of them had ever played before......

Didn't work as well as i hoped, but we had fun!

I was invited to be the boss battle in an add on mission to my local group's HotAC campaign.

Essentially my entire Imperial Fleet vs their Squadron + the space station they had acquired in the actual last mission. They would have had a corvette, but the DM forgot it.

So it was a Raider, a Gozanti, a Decimator, 11 LNs, 5 INs, 3 ADV, 2 D, 2 SA, 2 FO, 1 Phantom and a Lambda.

It wasn't a total blowout as I released ships in waves of 4-5 until everything was on the table. It was really cinematic feeling and the constant piling of TIEs had a Battle of Endor aesthetic. The fact that their Squadron downed two full flights of ties and the gozanti trading only two of their squadmates and 3-4 NPC Y-wings was awesome. The game went to time (more or less, the store was closing) so we called it.

I hope that we have a chance to do it again and play it all the way out because it was awesome.

X2K!! 1,000 points per side. (Just this past weekend, in fact.)

I fielded 2 lambdas, 12 Defenders, 2 Gozantis (one slinging 4 bombers and the other slinging 4 TIE/sfs), a Raider, and Jonus riding behind the Raider.

My brother fielded 2 CR-90 corvettes, 3 YT-1300s (Han, Rey and Chewie), 12 B-Wings, 4 or 5 Y-Wings with TLT, and Corran Horn.

The battlefield was 6x6 with a space station, mine field (essentially preset asteroids that blow up like bombs) and 12 asteroids.

We played for 8 hours. We called it due to time; I had lost all 3 capital ships, but had pretty much cleaned up his Starfighter escorts. I lost on points, but my brother swears he was done for because I still had 9 untouched x7s that were going to eat his corvettes alive.

We are going to play the same fleets, tweaked for tactical lessons learned, and scaled back to 600 points each (Double Epic!) so that we have a better chance of finishing.

The biggest issue was I actually put too much scenery on the table in my enthusiasm, and it made a big mess of capital ship flight patterns. OTOH, they could ignore mines. . .just run it over and Recover the next round.

I can't ever stomach a game longer than a couple hours, so largest I've ever done is 120 pt.

I played a a 200 point game this week and it was great fun but as we got beyond the 2.5 hour mark, we called a draw. With 1 ship left each, each with a single HP and chasing each other around the board Benny Hill fashion it felt like all the fun had already been had a draw was the most dignified way out.

I often play Epic on work nights, and the obvious loser often concedes without playing it out to the last ship so we can get home for bed.

Just played a two on two 400 per side match on Tuesday with hidden objectives. Lots of fun. I've played 400vs400 one on one which was one sided and over about the speed of a standard match. Love those ordnance tubes.

Problem with large games, as i learned doing a 500pt game, is Xwing's playtime scales exponentially and in-proportionally as the points go up.

Assuming you arent in a "Chase the soontir!" situation, the average 100pt game is just over an hour and often shorter due to alphastrikes. At 300pts, all 4 of the epic games ive done at that range took like 4hrs. Dang... The 500pt game i did we didnt even finish. Started around noon (counting setup here) and the store closed at 10pm and neither huge ship was dead or even in trouble lol

Wow, for our X2K we managed to kill about 1,000 points of ships in 7 hours. Of course, that may be a reflection of the amount of targets and the firepower about to be brought to bear. . .

I run a custom MEGA GAME scenario once a month at my FLGS. Typically 12-15 Rebel players/ships, using a custom ship building mechanic I made, against myself (and sometimes one other) as GM controlling anywhere from 10-20 ships at a time + 2 Raiders. Currently working on a Star Destroyer mission which will include 12 players vs a Destroyer and 30-40 ships.

Me and my brother did 2 cr90 one transport 12 x wings 6 y wings 4 b wings 4 e wings vs 2 raiders and gonzo 16 tie fighters 8 intercepts 4 bombers 2 punisher 4 defenders thinks it was 1000pts each took use 3 hrs as we both come from 40k so we know how to play big games

I've watched a 1000 v 1000 point game, two players to a side. I sadly arrived just too late to be the scum player...

Personally, I've done a few 300 v 300 matches, but they're a bit tedious. I shy away from huge ships due to their points inefficiency, and bring hard counters to huge ships like 4 A-wings with homing missiles, crack shot and guidance chips. Also, Biggs with R2-F2 is outstanding in those large games.

My FLGS was planning on doing an 8 player per side game or something crazy like that, but we couldn't coordinate everyone's schedules.

Played 2400 per side on a 9'x6' play area (6 mats) a couple of years ago. Was a lot of fun and went faster than you'd expect because once stuff starts dying, it spirals quickly.
