[SPOILER ALERT] Rogue One Poll

By patox, in X-Wing Off-Topic

Rogue One is breaking box office records and surpassing Disney's initial projections, which was quite lukewarm before the movie opened. Bob Iger even went so far as to warn investors that Rogue One is "an experiment of sorts". Gareth Edwards, the director also recently revealed the first script has some of the crew surviving.

Realizing that the majority of fans out there love the darker tone and the poignant, artsy fate of the characters, it seems the Disney execs sold the movie a bit short here. There's still money to be made with this storyline. And hypothetically, the fate of the crew may not be entirely sealed. After all Darth Maul has miraculously come back from the dead. I don't believe any character in the history of film, outside of a magic trick, has survived being cut in half.

[POLL]

Would you go watch Rogue Two, another caper-style, war spy film set after the Battle of Yavin with Jyn and possibly Rogue One crew members overcoming their doomed fate on Scarif? Not a prequel, but a story that is set in the time after the Death Star blows up.

Or would you boycott Rogue Two with full venom and burn all your Star Wars merchandise?

Can't there be a happy middle ground?

Can't Rogue Two be about the exploits of Maney Bowthans?

I wouldn't boycott it. I'd be amazed and curious as to how on earth they managed to write around this:

I mean, I might not like how they did it, and I wouldn't make much sense for Jan to survive, and like the Gecko said there are plenty of other chances to make grim-yet-hopeful stories in Star Wars; but I wouldn't boycott it and I'd probably be up for watching it - they're not past my threshold of disappointment yet, not even close.

I'm not watching anything until they bring EU publications back. The fact they didn't realize how people want darker stories is a testament to the utter disconnection from them.

If they brought the characters back from the dead, I'd be pissed. Not only is it incredibly overdone, but it robs Rogue One of all the weight it originally had.

You're comparing being cut in half to being vaporized by the Death Star.

As for the poll, I'm all for another war-themed Star Wars film similar to Rogue One. But it shouldn't feature any of the Rogue One characters. I'd probably be angry if they did. Like Ailowynn said above, bringing any of them back from the dead after their sacrifice in Rogue One removes all emotional weight of what they had to do to secure the Death Star plans.

I want a gritty Rogue Squadron X-wing film -- Black Sheep Squadron in space.

Jyn and Cassian can stay dead, though. Miraculously saving them cheapens a good film.

I think doing another spinoff of stealing info for the second death star but might too repetitive an idea, even if the execution is much different.

I think a cool spinoff for that era though would be about finding the new rebel base on hoth between episodes 4 & 5.

Another idea would be a live action battle of jakku movie.

I would find the miraculous escape of anyone from the Scarif facility irksome and nauseating.

I do think there is scope for more Rogue style Rebel "special forces" type movies though.

I think a political thriller based on the bothans dying to get the plans would be a good miniseries... netflix maybe.

Rouge Squadron should follow this movie. The top gun pilots of the rebels recruiting and assembling and doing impossible things in honor of rogue one... no volleyball scene though.

Then when that's a hit we get the third movie Wraith Squadron bringing things back to their commando roots... also they play pranks with a stuffed ewok.

You mean.... like this?

No gunfights, no action scenes, just character development. This is all the stuff that makes movies good with none of the fat.

(Edit. Yep, I've posted this short before. Yep, it's that good. ^_^ )
